May bad. That return key is trickey. lol. Anyway I was just wondering how fast you go through these bands. I'm on my third one right now. First one I broke and today I just lost it. I don't have that small of wrists that they just fall off but who knows what happened to this past one. Good thing i have 7 more left.

I've been wearing mine since May '04, and I'm on my second. First one broke a couple of months ago. I don't take mine off much, though.

My first band has lasted me well over a year, but because it's become a little 'worn' I slip on a new one for the day if I'm self-conscious about how it appears (meetings, etc) which only happens a couple times a month, and only if I remember to change it. I've got a drawer full that I keep on hand to hand out to people who ask me where I got mine, as it seems a little difficult to get here.

As for it slipping off your arm, have you tried the youth size bracelet? I'm an average size guy and the adult size gives me a couple of fingers of space, and the youth fits just snug on my wrist, so the kid's size isn't really smaller than the adult - might want to give it a try.

I NEVER take it off - I have a small medic alert tag on mine - and also a back-up one with a tag on it as well; much cooler than a clunky metal medical bracelet.

This completely baffles me. I have one that I wear whenever I'm on my time. However, if I'm on the company clock, it's off. Maybe it's because I'm a boring old (okay, young) commercial banker, but my personal feeling is that it's pretty unprofessional to be wearing it in a professional setting. I don't doubt that everyone has their personal reasons for wearing it, I do too, but I still just don't get it. I'm sure I'm in the minority on this one because when I go out for lunch (I work downtown in the CBD - central business district), everybody and their dog has one on. Suit, tie, (suit, sans tie for women), watch, livestrong band. I also realize certain professions are more relaxed so maybe that's it, but honestly, I wouldn't wear it to work even if we were more relaxed. In fact, we are relaxed - I now no longer have to wear a tie every day! Anyway, please enlighten me. I'm not looking so much for confrontation as I am trying to understand how/why this fits into a professional setting.

Back on topic, I've had mine for 2 years, put it on and take it off almost daily, and am just waiting for that little sucker to snap one of these days.

I guess because people with cancer don't get to not have cancer while I am at work. And I don't like to go very long without a visual symbol reminding me how blessed I am, and how hard I must work to remember that and give back/contribute somehow.

I've had mine for about 6 months. I wear it on my ankle, and I never take it off. If I wore it on my wrist (too big and no youths where I bought mine) I would not take it off at work. Nor would I take off my wedding ring, or my earrings, or anything else I want to wear to personalize myself while not being strange or obtrusive.  I am not just a worker bee, I am a person and I have a life and things I care about outside of work. Actually, that I care about MORE than I care about work.

Personally, I am on my second band. I lost my first one when I was swimming in the ocean - the adult sizes are a bit large on me. I've considered the smaller ones, but they didn't have any when I got this one.

I wear mine all the time because I do it in honor of my mother and grandmother, both cancer survivors, and in memory of my grandfather and great-grandmother, both of whom died from cancer. I'm a grad student and also work part time in retail so I don't feel like it interferes. Plus, if anyone asks, I tell them the reason. I've never had anyone tell me or make me feel like I shouldn't be wearing it. I think I'd be pretty offended if someone did. Maybe it's different in other industries, but I don't really feel like they draw negative attention to me.

My grandma isn't any less dead while I'm at work either.

As for personalization, I feel it's becoming like the saying - You're unique. Just like everybody else.

To each their own. I'm just curious. But don't get me started on those that wear 10 different colored ones up and down their arms.

All I'm saying is we all wear it for different reasons. I'm sure some people wear it as a fashionable accessory, but even so, I don't see how it's unprofessional. It's unobtrusive, it's not controversial (maybe it would offend the pro-cancer folks?). I don't see, and have never imagined how anyone anywhere would have any problem with anyone wearing a plastic bracelet (unless, I guess, if you work with heavy machinery where it could be a safety hazard).

.....As for personalization, I feel it's becoming like the saying - You're unique. Just like everybody else.

The definition of personalization is probably not that you have something that no one else on the planet has....because there is no such thing as that.  To me personalization means.....the things I care about that make me the person that I am.  Every person on the planet could wear the exact same things that I wear, and I would still be unique because I am me.  That "unique like everyone else" seems very cynical.  Everyone IS unique, because of who they are.  I am not my external appearance, but this gives you the opportunity to bring a little of who you are on the inside, out. To say, "I care about this", without using any words.  However, I'm sure that there are certain people who find this small symbol just as annoying as if someone dyes their hair purple or gets tatoos or body piercing.  Some people do not want to see any form of personal expression whatsoever, on anyone, ever.  So it's just a matter of what you are comfortable with, and everyone decides what that is for them.

I had open-heart surgery four-and-a-half years ago to replace my aortic valve with a mechanical valve. My father sat with me everyday while I was in the hospital. It took me a year to fully recover and he was always there encouraging me and cheering me up when I needed it.

My father was diagnosed with stage four renal cell cancer just about the time I did my first triathlon in February of 2004. He died that June, just about the time the Livestrong bands first came out. I moved into my parent’s house to help care for him in his last few weeks so he could stay at home rather than go to the hospital. It was the least I could do for him. I still miss him terribly.

I have worn my Livestrong band ever since. I am actually on my third one, as they seem to deteriorate in the chlorinated water at the pool where I train.

I am a financial advisor for a major Wall Street firm. I wear my band to work everyday. I keep a bag of them in my desk to give away to clients and others.

I know that I am extremely lucky to be physically able to train and compete in triathlons. I also know that I will always be a BOP’er only competing against myself. That’s okay.

I also know that it could all be over tomorrow. And I would have no regrets.

Mark

Mine has lasted a while, but I do take mine off while at work. I would hate to have it melt to my wrist during a fire.

Now that's a good reason to take it off at work!
