Pretty pleased with how it all went - my only goal was to finish and not come last in my age group - it ends up I came THIRD in my age group (out of 12).   And 18th (out of about 50 for overall).  The bike leg was killer for me - the first half was a lot of up hills - and I hate hills LOL!  I was sure glad to have had my granny gears!  (and I actually even passed two people in my lowest gear!).  the official times aren't posted yet - but for 300m/14k/4k my overall time was about 1:06.  I know my cyclometer showed me at just under 33 min for the bike....not sure about how the others add up....

I did something really stupid and wore my zoot flats without socks for the first time during the race - and yup - you guessed it - got blisters (nasty ones) by 2km on the run....not happy with my run at all (again not sure of the time but it FELT really slow).  I think it was a combination of not doing enough bricks in training, blisters, and probably a nutrition thing too.

Will give more info when I have it.

Fantastic! You gotta be pleased as punch about the podium spot. Well done for your first tri!

Looking forward to your results in Oliver. Only one hill to contend with here.

Congratulations! You should be proud!

thanks!  I am dying for them to post the official times/splits! I am really happy with how it went overall!  I passed WAY more people than who passed me.  In the pool I passed 5 got passed by 1, on the bike I passed about 10, got passed by 1, and on the run I passed 2, and  got passed by 2.

I only took my first swim lesson and bought my bike 3 MONTHS ago!!!  And I haven't really even trained all that much (as much as I should have)....but it DID feel HARD, and made me realize that I am going to have to do some more training to do the full sprint in 3 weeks! (although maybe it won't be so bad if the ride isn't so hilly!).

It may be not as hilly but it is 6k longer so get on that bike and ride!

thanks again you two!  Andrew did take a few pics - but they are really crappy (he is definitely NOT a photographer).  I tried to get him to take pics with my big m-f'er camera but he wouldn't bite - so I will have to be content with the ones he took on his crappy P&S.  He also got a bit of video - neither of which is on my computer yet though. I will also see if there are any 'official' pics that were taken that day - not sure.

My 8 and 11 year old did the KOS too - they were both BOP (last and tied for last LOL)...but both had lots of fun and want to do more.  I feel bad for my 11 year old though - we didn't realize his seat was broken on his bike and it kept tipping backwards on him and he would have to get off his bike to fix it - and ended up having to walk up some of the hills because he lost his momentum.

in the draws after my 11 year old won a cap, and my 8 year old won a t-shirt and a pair of NB shoes!  I won a race belt - which I already had.

I have ridden 20-22km rides before and do just fine with them when they aren't overly hilly.  The 20km distance doesn't scare me (it would if it was a course like at Whistler).....curious to hear what Rob thought of the course.

I did see him but not until the end when crossing the finish and announcing his name - when I went to look for him a few minutes later I couldn't find him.  I actually thought 1 of 2 OTHER men were him before that.  For some reason I thought he was wearing a WHITE top (he was actually wearing blue) - and called out a guy on the bike I thought was him - and then a guy (different but wearing the same thing) said something to me and gave me a high-five on the run and I thought for sure that must have been Rob.....didn't realize until the end that I was wrong -sorry Rob! (what did you think of the course?)

Congratulations Jill!  That's awesome.  Good job making the podium!

I forgot my contacts at home in the chaos of packing my wife and son up to go...  It wasn't too bad with the transition bag right outside the pool to pick up my glasses.  It was a bit of a long run to go barefoot from the pool to the bike, but they had done a good job sweeping the pathway.

I sucked in the swim.  Definitely didn't put enough hours in at the pool.  I'm signing up for the Total Immersion Clinic in June in Langley.  It made the bike much more fun though.  Starting at the back means more passing.   I was in the pool for 11:33.  This was my weakest spot.  I completely blew up trying to do a bad freestyle so just rolled into a recovery position and kicked for most of the swim.

I loved the bike course!  Except for the speed bumps....  Hills are fun!  All the commutes to SFU helped I guess.  Oh, and descending is even more fun.  I did get cut off by a car that practically stopped for a speed bump in front of me.  I did the course in about 32:19 including part of the bike to run transition.  This was my second ride with a power meter and a first glance at the data says I held a lot back.  Anyone have advice on TSS/IF scores for triathlons versus bike races?

I did not do enough bricks!  I never knew a 4k run could feel so bad.  I decided to do a 4 and 1 run/walk split which I should have stopped at the halfway mark but didn't.  There was way more support stations on this run than I expected.  I got more water and gatorade than I did at the Historic Half!  I actually turned some down.  I think I met that high fiving guy in the white top here.  First guy I passed going the other way was wearing white and high fiving everybody.   The run took 25:27 with about a minute in transition.  It's actually where I expected to be.

Overall, I had a lot of fun.  Some very nice people at the BOP, friendly, helpful volunteers.  Well organized and laid out.  A much smaller feeling event compared to most runs, but that was a good thing.  My timing says about 1:12:09 so it'll be interesting to see what the official results were.

Now I just have to put all this into a race report...

Good job you two. Sounds like you had agreat time up there.

Jill ~ You posted that "IT DID feel HARD ~ It most likely will always feel hard because no matter your fitness or ability you tend to push yourself to the ends of them come race time. My sprint in Delta felt just as hard as my Olympic at UBC despite way more training since the Oly because you just push harder when you know you don't have to go as long/far.

I emailed the director and asked when the results would be posted and she said SOON - but she emailed me the excel file in the meantime!

My official times are:

300m swim - 6:50 - 2:17/100m - 26th overall

14km bike - 36:47 (both transitions included - my time showed just under 33 min) - 7th (!!!) overall

4km run - 22:33 - 30th overall (see I told you it was slow!)

1:06:10 overall - good enough for 17th (out of 54) overall and 3rd out of 12 for age group!

Rob I've got your results too if you're interested!  Your swim and run times are both faster than you've got!

Wow, you were flying! Congratulations Jill! Turns out I got 3rd in my category as well. I also got 50/51 in the swim! The person behind me probably couldn't get past me...
