Why am I soooooo tired? Can't get out of bed in the mornings, tired all day lond and I fall into bed in the evenings. My workouts are 1/2 to 1/3 of my previous weeks so I can't see it as over doing it....taper is killing me, grumpy, tired and listless...am I pregnant?!?!?! Any other ideas?

Your body is repairing itself and taking up all your resources....eat, sleep, and be cranky....welcome to taper madness.

I feel you.  I just started my taper this week and, I can hardley get myself out of bed in the morning.  It's becoming harder and harder to get the workouts in.  I was supposed to get up at 5 today to get a run in and ended up turning off the alarm and got up at 7, after going to bed at 9 last night.  Ughh.

i was reading about this this morning in Triathlete Mag.(swimsuit edition). I don't remember the exact term but it is called something like trailing/lagging fatigue or something like that. It is fatigue that has slowly been building up over time while you are training heavily but still feeling good. I read it seems to show up a lot during periods of taper. As the poster above stated, you should continue to follow your taper plan and get rested. You should begin to feel better in a few days. Apparently, it is tempting to try pick up the intensity again and train away the fatigue.

take care and rest up!

Yeah, I tapered the last couple of weeks, and it was really hard to get in those last few workouts before the race. It seemed like I had to drag myself to the pool.

I wouldn't dismiss the idea of pregnancy so fast. Have you had a period in the past month?

If not, congratulations! You're racing for two.

I have taper inertia.  I'm tired and cranky, which is to be expected, but I'm also finding it much easier to dismiss my workouts.

That's so funny...I was just thinking about this on the way into work this morrning.  Why am I soooo tired, when I haven't done anything this week, except for a swim on Sunday?  Had every intention on getting up yesterday morning to do a quick ride, but when the alarm went off, I thought I heard rain, so I too went back to bed until 7!

I am guilty though of staying up late to watch the Olympics...

Going to get a swim in tonight...no matter what!

Taper week blows...I much prefer the other weeks where I am running around like a chicken with my head cut off!

Thanks for the lunch time laugh.  I don't know why I am dying of laughter over this but I am!

Me too...good stuff!

I must be weird as I loved my IM taper. I didn't feel great but so happy to have the big training behind me. More time to hang out with my family and do things I hadn't done it awhile. I wasn't cranky. I was cranky about 6-7 weeks out from my IM when the heavy build period was very very tough.Trailing fatigue is the phrase they used in that article. It can take 7-10 days when you first start tapering where fatigue still builds up then it starts to decline. It will get better...

Wasn't there a pregnant "guy" making the talk show circuit recently?  Are you him?

Off the pregnancy issue for a moment and back onto tapering tiredness...I've needed a nap every day (and gotten it most days) for about the last week. But my legs are feeling good and I'm looking forward to my HIM in 9 days.
