Thanks so much for your concern and well-wishes, everyone. In many ways, Scooby is the center of our family and it would be horrible to lose him to something like this way before his time.

At least he has a shot, and so far his condition hasn't worsened. In fact, he had a better night last night than the one before. But we're told to expect things to get bad. Unfortunately, as with cancer, the treatment for blastomycocis can be as lethal as the disease itself. But we're saying our prayers and hoping for the best, and we know that many of you are as well. Thank you so much!

Prayers and happy thoughts for your family and Scooby.

And I'm going to go hug my cats...if they'll let me.

OMgosh, I knew he was sick, did not know it was blasto. Is he having the chemo type treatment for it? He, and you and your family are in my prayers.

I'm sorry to hear about your guy Scooby.  Hang in there.  Pulmonary Blasto (if that's what this is) surely is a tough road.  And yes, when therapy is initiated, many dogs experience worsening symptoms before they improve due to inflammation from fungal die-off.  I have seen successes though, even with some really serious cases.  Best wishes in confirming the diagnosis and in treating.

PS - I know you have no idea who I am, but I'm new to the area and to BT.  And I really enjoyed "The Distance".

Thanks again for your warm thoughts and prayers, everyone-- so far, they seem to be working.

To give you the latest update, I copied the one from my blog to post here. So far, Scooby is doing unexpectedly well:

********* SCOOBY UPDATE ***********

Last night was even better than the night before. Scooby slept relatively comfortably and with very few coughing bouts. We keep waiting for the other foot to drop but so far it hasn't. Sure, he's extremely tired but he's still aware and eating and will even greet us at the door and "protect the house" from anyone who dares walk past outside. We spoke with the vet yesterday and we still have no final confirmation it's blasto. In fact, for the second time the test came back negative (which we're told isn't terribly unusual). But the lung x-ray is what it is... SOMETHING is everywhere. We don't really think it's cancer because his blood white count is normal. It could be a different fungal infection, but some are just as serious as blasto (histo) or it could be a lesser serious infection (which would be AWESOME). The good news is, after three days on fluconazole, he's no worse and maybe even a little better. Please keep your fingers crossed!
