I was a little nervous as well to start posting and would much rather lurk, but I figure if I want to do this better jump in with both feet. I actully do have a question about biking... What is a good distance or time to start your training??
I hope I got the quote thing to work. I like following plans. This site has some good ones and they are free! This year I followed one from "Training Plans for Multisport Athletes" by Gale Bernhardt. This book also has nutrition info which yes someday I will actually follow. Others recommended The Training Bible to me, but I haven't used it. I like to research a lot, but truly...if I worked out as hard as I research I'd probably do better at races!
You could follow what your friend does and that may work out fine, too. Start where you're at and build and keep it simple. If you aren't a cyclist, getting out 30-45 min 3 times a week would be a goal to shoot for. Check your library for Bicycling magazine, they have a beginner's issue every year.
I like my longer bike Sun am (it's now 2 hrs ) and long runs Sat am. with a dip in the bay or an ice bath after, to reduce inflammation and make life sweet.
Have fun, need sleep.
