Mountain Bikers Rejoice

I always rode a hard tail.

So big fat NO for me!  But I did love to jump stuff the few times I went mountain biking each year.  Just that we have a lot of really technical trails around here and not a lot of open fire trail type stuff.

I might try it if I saw it in person. 

I've done a steeper one, but it wasn't a rock landing so it was more forgiving for a mistake.

I don't think my Madone could handle that whether I was willing or not. ;-)

I think he is more rolling that than actually hucking off it from the top....or at least that is the way I would do it.  Just make sure the front end is up before the ground comes.

yes.. if he was hucking that he'd probably taco the front wheel when he landed, which wouldn't be fun at all. 

Oh, I'd contemplate it.  0% chance I'd do it (100% chance when I was young and stupid), but I'd contemplate it.

Hardtail riding here, no big drops for me.  I'm too old, have a mortgage, kid and have to be at work on Monday morning...

I'd rather go uphill fast.

Speaking from experience, I think it takes a few bad accidents/surgeries before the "psychos" learn that participating in "stupid contests" are not very wise in the long-term.

The actually huck would only be a few feet as you would ride down it and then pull back on the reigns for the last part.

Scary? Yes
Full of consequences if you screw up? Yes
Would I do it? I wouldn't get the chance as one of my buddies would have already done it and made me look silly.

I would not be happy with what looks like a lack of runout...  It's pretty much going from vert. to horiz. instantly.

The thing about this is that its not the hucking or drop that will hurt you... Its that SUDDEN stop at the bottom that does the dirty work.

This reminds me of why I've grown to enjoy my road bike...

As others have mentioned, it's not exactly a huck through the air, he's only slightly off of the rock as he drops in, and rolls down for the most part.  I've added a rough line that I think the bikers take at this spot.

This is more scary than difficult, as long as your front wheel is pointed in the right direction, get back far enough, you'll roll through it.  Momentum is your friend on a mountain bike.

Funny though that there's no followup picture to show what happened at the bottom.  Did he make it or spill trying?
