Subject: I completed my first HIM this weekend!!!!!I did the HIM in Door County WI on Sunday. My time was not amazing by any means, but I finished it and I have to say I am brimming with pride!!! Here's a breakdown of my times... Swim (1.2 miles )- 46:15 T1 - 2:12 Bike (56 miles ) - 3:08:13 (17.9 pace ) T2 - 1:45 Run (13.1 miles ) - 2:31:14 (11:32 pace ) Total - 6:29:40 My fairly random goal was 6:30, so it looks like I hit the target! Obviously the run was my weakest event. The first few miles were rough because my legs felt like logs. Also I have had this ongoing problem with my pinky toe of my left foot getting smooshed by my other toes and it becomes this giant blister. I had put a bandaid around it and the bandaid started to rub on the toe next to it. This was all causing terrible pain so I was trying to spread my toes out which resulted in a huge cramp that kept coming in the ball of my foot. I had to stop repeatedly and stretch my foot. Then at mile 9 there was this 200 ft hill in a 1/4 mile. After that I was wiped out. I think I walked more than I ran after that. Between the foot pain and general exhaustion I just could not keep running. I also justified walking because I was looking at my watch and I figured I could still finish in the goal I had set. LOoking back I wish I had pushed harder, but I have to allow myslef to just appretiate what I accomplished before I start nit picking it! The course was beautiful and relatively flat, which was good for my bike because it decided to not get into the small chain ring during the race for some reason! I did this race with 2 of my friends and I was the last out of the water. Perhaps my favorite part of the race was passing them both on the bike on my vintage Trek! All in all it was an amazing day! |
