Do I really care if Chicago gets it or not? Not really. I suppose it would be good for the local economy and maybe good international PR for the city and country. Wouldn't want the Olympics to come to my city but being in Cincy probably wouldn't ever have to worry about it, couldn't even imagine the traffic in Chicago if the Olympics went there. Olympics are nice and probably a nice boon to the local economy and outlying areas but the inconvenience to me would suck!  |

This is just another attempt by Daley to line his buddies pockets. Now that the FBI got Blago, hopefully Daley is next. They claim that the tax payers won't pay a dime, yet they already have signed off on backing the games with tax payer money, should private donations fall short (and they will). You can't pay your buddies contracting firms and the unions with what they have pledged so far. Take a look at all the other projects the city tries to do (see Millennium Park), it costs twice as much as they project and takes twice as long to build. To make up for it they usually raise some tax, again Millennium Park parking garage tax. We have the highest sales tax in the nation and one of the highest property taxes. I don't want to get the .5% Olympic sales tax added or my property taxes reassessed to cover the games or my city Olympic Income tax. Don't get me wrong, I love the Olympics. If they were held in any city other than Chicago I would support it. Heck if they were held in a suburb just outside of Chicago I would support it. With the current administration in Chicago and their proven track record, it is just too big a risk. |

So, either Chicago or Rio de Janeiro will do, since they are close enough to my time zone. However, if Chicago get the Olympics, I may be tempted to travel to Chicago and watch some events in person. |

Coincidence all our social programming/funding has been cut? Coincidence taxes have been raised - new taxes introduced? Coincidence that every day in the news the government is announcing another cut, another tax, another program lost ... gotta pay for those Olympics somehow. I used to be really pro-Olympics ... looked forward to it every 2 years, was glued to the tv for the games ... now that I see how it corrupts a community, I'm not so sure how I feel anymore. |

We just finished paying for the Olympic stadium last year... its been like, boah, only 33 years!!! That's nothing! Go Chicago for 2016!! |

Got keep your buddies employed somehow. Yes, most the road work lingers on. The contractors make huge political donations and somehow the projects keep going and going. Considering our last two governors are in jail or on the way to jail, says a lot about politics in this state. |

If Obama makes the surprise trip over to address the IOC (which I fully expect him to do), Chicago will be awarded the games. If he does not, they will go to Rio. I think it is time for them to be back in the USA. The IOC realizes where the vast majority of their television funds come from. On a personal note, it will be great having them in almost the same time zone! |

I find it interesting that the general consensus among Chicago-ans on this website is that they don't want it since they are probably more informed than the general population of Chicago (that was a compliment Tony...) and know that the cost outweighs the benefit. I bet Daley and crew put out a referendum and get the general pop in-favor of funding it so they can justify spending $Millions. It wouldn't be difficult to pass something like that since Prez Obama has been involved in the process and would lend his popularity to it. That means if you're from Chi-town and don't want it. Sorry. It's probably coming. Rio would be a nice venue though. Probably more like Barcelona back in 92 when every single event was sold-out and packed. |

I'm not from Chicago, but I'm close enough (i.e. inside Illinois borders) that we'll get tapped for the infrastructure costs etc. without the upside of tourism dollars leaking out down here.
