Hop into that Cayman S and sustain 130 for 5 minutes. You will be exhausted when you get back home. There was nothing redeeming in my post (as usual), but I feel your pain, although my insomnia is self-induced. Time to sleep when I die, regardless of how detrimental it is to me getting my Kona spot. Chris Edited because I initially typed Cayenne, when you clearly would not have a van AND an SUV. Cayman gets the nod. Same difference to me.. one's an island, the other a spice. Both are hot. Edited by karhooligan 2008-01-25 2:43 AM |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I had a period of really bad insomnia... after my 8mo of being unemployed and leaving a relationship. When I got reemployed, I thought all my problems were over, but that's when the insomnia hit because I kept worrying that I could easily become unemployed again, it was so bad. I didn't sleep for 4 weeks, and it wasn't getting any better. Finally saw a doc, and I took some prescription drugs for a little while to get me over the hump... Ambien and those Tylenol PM did nothing for me. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() i have had wicked insomnia for the last few days... Currently i am running on 3 hours of sleep from last night and 2 the night before. I have had periods of it throughout my life. I am not sure what causes it, but i know that i hate it. The worst i ever had it was when I worked the midnight shift at a brick plant during summer break while i was in college. I think i may have slept maybe a 100 hours all summer... |

I don't want to start taking meds for it just yet. Last night I slept for about an hour! BTW...Did considered the Cayene but my baby fits perfectly in the trunk of the pilot. A girl can have more than one bike. I don't need 2 suv. ![]() Edited by crazyt1971 2008-01-25 8:23 AM |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've been bad lately too! It's super frustrating. Do you take caffine (coffe, soda, whatever)? If I am having trouble sleeping I usually cut that out completely first thing. I don't get enough to be addicted so I have no withdraw issues. If that doesn't work, I get a lot of cleaning/reading/other stuff done. I can usually tell if I am going to be able to sleep in the first few hours. I don't waste the awake time being frustrated, I get up and do something productive then every couple hours I try and go to sleep. I can usually get a few hours of sleep with this system. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The best thing is to get out of bed and do something else, then after a while, try climbing back into bed to sleep. Boring movies should work too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Films_considered_the_worst_ever |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I went to a sleep clinic because of my insomnia. I only slept for about three hours and woke up. I hear this booming voice coming from the wall. "Are you awake"? I thought it was GOD at first. I said yes, "Get up then". I got up and got dressed. I then went home and sat around the rest of the morning until I had to go to work. I met with the doctor and he told me that my insomnia was all psychological. He said to evaluate all foods I take in and my homelife. Foods and caffeine intake were fine. I cured my insomnia when I filed for divorce. Now I am sleeping like a baby. Atleast 7 hours every night. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have had bad bouts on and off for a long time. The one thing that helps me the most is not to be bothered by it. I guess I use "mindfulness" techniques that keep me in the present moment...I don't catastrophise about how awful the future will be with no sleep or go into the past thinking about why the insomnia happens to begin with. I just accept it as it is and its not an instant cure but it seems to sort itself out faster than when I used to think about it constantly. Of course, I have to use the present moment awareness to get me through the next day when I feel like sh*t, too!! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I struggle with it too and its usually directly related to stress (often over stupid things)... If Im not too wound up I get out of bed, remake it (with nice clean sheets if neccesary), have a hot shower (your body takes the reduction in body temperature that occurs afterwards as a sign of sleep time or something like that) and take to paracetamol... Otherwise... toss and turn all night and try to deal with the source of stress... I didnt sleep last night... yesterday I agreed to have lunch with my old boss nest week... Im predicting I wont sleep until after I get through that on Wednesday... (just proves how wound up and stressed I was at my previous job I guess!) |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have had insomnia for on and off for a little over 2 years now. But for the past 8 months it has been really bad. I may avg 2-4 hours of sleep a night. I'm not one to take medicine but about a month ago, not sleeping really caught up with me so I went to the doctor. The doctor gave me AMBIEN (great stuff like other people have said), but I am afraid that I will get addicted to it and really not sleep after taking AMBIEN. The doctor gave me the highest dose possible and for the longest period of time that a doctor is allowed to prescribe. The first night I took it I was out in 9 minutes only to wake up and wonder what the hell happened. It was great, but a little to great for comfort. So I tried Melatonen, it's something I picked up at GNC that helps you relax and it has helped me some, but not a lot. That with a warm class of milk and honey can help me relax at night. I feel your frustration believe me, like I said I really haven't had one good night of sleep in at least 8 months. I can't tell you the last time I was able to sleep. Good luck to you. |

![]() In the past 2 weeks i am averaging about 2-3 hours of sleep. The last bout of insomnia lasted about a month and a half. I keep a separate log of my hours when I am not sleeping and looking back, each bout seems to last longer by a week +days. My last resort seems to be meds but I am still trying not to take that route...not just yet. Last night was 1.5 hours. Did an early 45min run and a group ride....still not tired enough to sleep. very frustrating! -Theresa |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This is a little off the subject, but my doctor also said that women tend to be more prone to suffering from insomnia than men. My doctor said the reason for this is because in general women tend to worry more about things than men do. He said it could be that we are subconsisley (sp?) thinking/worrying about something that is keeping us from sleeping. Anything from a new job, new boyfriend, just got married, training for a race, or even the race itself could cause insomnia. My doctor told me to ask my mother if she has ever suffered from insomnia because it does run in the family. I asked my mom and she said she never has suffered from insomnia, I've tried to think about what I could be worrying about.
