Subject: The infamous Tri Suit - thoughts?
So I saw a great price on a Descente tri suit in the latest USAT magazine and thought maybe this would be a good thing to buy. I always lose time trying to getting my shirt on over my wet chiseled chest and this would solve this problem. BUT, is the tri suit the equivalent to skiing's powder suit, aka, the "fag bag?" (truly, I'm not a homophobe). I mean it's a 'onesie." Anywho, I wouldn't be a total douche if I wore one of these would I?

Anyone wear them? How are they for swimming in?

I wear one.  I like it.  I tried shorts and a jersey, but the jersey was too baggy, and as you said is a pain to get on when wet.  I tried on a two piece outfit, but I am not built for a super tight top. (talk about looking "feminine".  The tri suit is basically bib shorts with a shirt (minus sleeves).  If you have never ridden your bike with bib shorts, you don't know what you are missing.  The fact that you don't have the constriction around your waist rocks.

That being said, wear what you are comfortable with.  I like the one piece tri suit.  (so does my wife)

If it's a wetsuit swim i wear two pieces. If it's not a wetsuit swim, I wear a one piece. It works for me.

I've been accused of being a little gay before but my wife doesn't think so.

If you're worried about what others think you may be a bit insecure. Long ago I realized I have no control over other people's thoughts and opinions. With that in mind I wear whatever will provide me the greatest benefit. Yes, I use a one piece trisuit. It works great. No problem at all in the swim. I had the same problem you're having before I used a trisuit and it cost me an AG placing a couple times. The people who might poke fun at what I wear are usually far behind.

FWIW, I also skied many years in a one piece powder suit. I even boarded in it. It's ancient history now, but back then I couldn't have cared less what people thought. I had quite a few people who wanted to be able to fly down a mogul field like I did or go off the cliffs/cornices. I can still out bump a large majority even at the age of 52, but I've given up the cliff jumping.

I liked my tri-suit...but as I'm not quit hardcore enough to pee on myself while racing, I prefer something 2-piece.

But then I'm a woman, it's gotta be different for you manly mens.

Yeah, that probably wouldn't be good unless you were planning on winning at Kona! The top Olympic guys may also be sporting such "feminine" attire so better not watch them either. I'm going to guess that what Faris was wearing helped keep him cool in the heat of the lava fields.

If you look like this guy maybe you need to do more training.

Ok. This seems to have gotten a bit more serious than I intended or I've breached an issue very sensitive to some triathletes. Yes, that is Faris Al-Sultan winning at Kona. Yes, he is a stud. Yes, I'm sure his outfit gave him some cooling advantages and he is perfectly comfortable and secure enough to wear it. Yes, I think he bought it at Lady Fitness. Hey, to each his own! Thank God you posted the picture at the end so I know you have a sense of humor

My point was who cares what other people think? You think what Faris wore is feminine. Obviously he couldn't care less because it's what works for him. Wear what works for you and quit worrying about what others will think. Some may think you look like a stud while others may think you look like a fag regardless of what you wear. You can't control that so why bother? A one piece trisuit will work very well for your purposes. I have a Zoot and one from Voler. Both have worked well. The Zoot is now worn out so I don't use it for racing. Only you can be the judge of what works for you. Give it a try. You won't be out of place in a trisuit at a triathlon.

I wear a 2XU tri suit and I think it's great.....no chafing, can unzip a little when hot, and it doesn't look half bad. Oh and no bunching up under the wetsuit. I have taken a few comments from friends questioning my manhood, but hey, it works.

Hey Don...this is BT. Everything we say here is with jest and a freaky sense of humor. FFstock...personally, your post gave me a good laugh. Especially the chiseled chest part. JUST KIDDING...I've never seen your chest!

I think that you should get one!  With your chiseled chest I'm sure that the uniTARD would make you very popular!  And it may even make you faster too!!!  I'm sure that once you explain that it really makes you faster that all your buds at work would stop calling you a homo (not that there is anything wrong with being a homo.......)

You're a brave man to broach the whole leg shaving subject. I don't want to even start that fire...

So I'm just going to go with no shirt, no socks, and a zebra striped thong. At least it will keep me from getting chicked on the bike. No way they'll pass me and give up that view.

OK, you win. I'll be expecting to see you wearing the thong at the Fall Frenzy.

Dude seriously at this point with the chiseled chest and all these comments you should just go for the Borat banana hammock and race in that!

FF, I know for a fact that BLACKBUD has a zebra speedo that you can borrow. Not sure if you two are the same size.

With all due respect to the zebra thong - or even the banana hammock I have to politely suggest that - while it may be enjoyable you would be missing something very important if that is all you chose to wear.

For both form *and*  function I think that you would best be suited to wear:

a thong (you pick the style that makes you feel the most "free" - but extra credit for anything shiny)

catcher's mitt

cowboy hat

badminton racquet

fake mustache

I wear a 2XU tri suit as well and I have to say the first time I put it on, I felt more than just a little bit exposed (and one of my roomates hurt herself laughing when I sprung it on them). After a couple workouts though it was very comfortable and I often wear it on bike rides (no chance of getting a burn between the top of my shorts and bttom of my cycling jersey).
