So who is doing Acworth this weekend?  Any first timers??  This should be a great race (as long as they don't make the run half a mile longer like last year!).

I'll be there.  Although it's not looking like I'll be setting any PR's, as I just developed a raging case of Plantar's in my left heel. I intend on playing thru the pain though!

I agree on that extra half mile, that was killer last year. It was only my 3rd sprint ever and I could barely run 3 at that point. So at mile 3.2 when that volunteer told me I had 800M more to run I'm afraid my response wasn't polite.

Run will be right this year.  I asked Jim Rainey about it on Wed.  He said that they had printed a note about it being long due to construction or something like that last year in the newsletter that went out prerace.  I told him none of us saw it.

Good luck to everyone!

I'm in.

I did the race last year...it was my first tri.  The run nearly killed me.  I was ready to stop and strangle every person who told me, "the finish is not much farther".

I'm in. I've never done it before. Is the course hilly or relatively flat?

I don't think they even took mine last year.  Maybe take a couple of bucks just in case they charge you (although I doubt they will).

So any thought on the run distance this year??? I either ran the slowest last 1.1 mile of my life or it was more like 3.45 (which is what it came out to be on mapmyrun.com). Did anyone wear a garmin?

Thanks Ron, (blushing)  it was a really fun race! Aimee totally kicked butt, as did the rest of the ATCers

As for the run distance hellemc, I did have my garmin and the distance showed up pretty much right. However, I did start it late and my run time and the overall run times were "slow"

I think the run was pretty much right on distance this year. My run time was slow too, but I put that down the Plantar's in my left heel. It definitely slowed me down. The one I don't get was my swim was 1 minute slower than last year. I think I'm a better swimer now than last year, so how did I get slower. Could the bouys have been a little further out this year?

My swim time was a minute slower this year, too - I think it was longer this year than last year.

This was my first tri in 4 years and my first one ever in Georgia (we moved from Nor Cal). Good race but I've got to say that the way they started the swim waves was a bit bizarre to me. I'm used to just self-seeding waves regardless of age group. We went out per age group I believe "oldest" to youngest. So we all went in and ran into the water, finding some people who ran like a bat out of hell to be breastroking. Uggh. Then I ended up swimming over some people in the wave before me in order to get out of the water. Keep in mind, I'm no Dana Torres. I think a self seeding method via waves might work better. I was at least a minute slower because of the chaos. I know there's usually open water chaos but I think some of it could be eliminated. Or maybe it was just me. Who knows.

Anyway, I was decently happy out of the water but could NOT get my legs going on the bike. I think I'll be the only triathlon participant to bring a bike trainer for warm up I'm so slow to warm up and it showed. I've been road racing and totally dedicated to cycling for a year...and it did not show! However, that's not the type of riding I typically did and when we hit a "hill" I'd power up and then fall back on flats. It's like reverse world. I'm not considered a great climber in cycling (racing) circles but in the real world I guess I am decent. So where's the hilliest triathlon coming up??? Maybe I was subconsiously saving it for the run. I knew I should have worn the TT helmet!

The run was good. I forgot to stash my powergel in my bra top so I had no nutrition for a kick out there. That kind of sucked. Race error due to inexperience. The run distance seemed right on to me. I ended up 20/111 in my age group so I'm very happy with that given my foray back into running just started about a month ago and so I'll just toot my horn a bit. And it was faster than any of my other previous tris so I guess exclusive cycling training taught me how to suffer and suck it up more. I don't know. But I'm not doing anything longer than a sprint anytime soon!

I'll feel a lot better about the swim if that was the case. I'm going with it.

I thought the swim was longer too!  I thought I would *never* get to that first turn buoy.

I almost flipped out during the first 50 yds, but managed to pull it together and get through the swim.

It was a good race!

OK, I feel better about the swim now that's it's not just me. Overall, I love the Acworth race. I think they do a fabulous race and the course is great.

I'm all for wave starts, but who decided that oldest to youngest order? I was in the second wave and for the first 2-3 miles on the bike I felt like I was passing every pink cap'er out there! I don't like to ride on the left, but there were so many of them to pass you couldn't pull back in line after making the pass before you hit another slow biker.

For BBoston - try a race at Lake Lanier. The bike course up there is hilly.

Thanks Cindi. I may do the Tri2Remember at Lanier since I got shut out of the Peachtree City race on 8/22. The old to young start reminded me of a cycling race I did when they asked the Cat 4 women to line up before the pros??? One pro said "why, so we can run over them?" I still don't like her for that smart comment even though it's true. Although the oldest = slowest isn't going to necessarily be true, I'd put 30-40 ahead of 60s!
