What kinda tire tire tire you want? Train Train Train? Race Race Race?

I'm sick of that.

What you want, bullet proof? Fast? Pretty?

Vredestein Fortezza Tricomps. Tuff as nails, yet corner and handle beautifully. You'll have few flats until the outer casing wears. Once you get that third flat, buy new. I get ~10K miles from a set. Can go to 175psi for zero rolling resistance if your rims will handle it. I'm at 145 w/ mine.

Michelin ProRace2s

ditto - except they are actually "Pro2 Race"

Best balance of rolling resistance (low) and puncture resistance (high) that I could find.

$36 bucks each at www.biketiresdirect.com AND you can get colored sidewalls to match your bike trim. BLING BLING!

wha?

x2 on the wha? at 130psi the vibration is quite enough I have to think that at 175 my hands might vibrate off.   If the 10k is even close I'm getting a pair.  I defer to Bear on that though,

Yup and yup. Ok, by 10K miles, the rear has a significant flat spot worn in it and it's cut and scuffed up. But, I usualy am on my third puncture for the year and I switch to new ones. When you start flatting more than once-twice, swap them. But when they're new, they're really flat resistant. I get about 18 months from a set. This particular pair now is at 7K and looks about time to toss. Ride this bike trhough mid-october and about another 1000 miles before pulling down the winter tank commuter and the cross bike. I'll change them this winter when I strip and overhaul the bike.

And yes, the side wall says they're rated to 175psi. I run every day at 145. I started at 120, but kept adding more to both drop rolling resistance and avoid pinch flatting. I've found 140-145 to be optimal. I have no issues with comfort or road feedback; maybe that's the frame helping?

Check http://www.vredesteinusa.com/road.htmlfor the whole line up.

I also have their cyclocross clinchers as my training set. They're OK, butI like the Vittoria tubulars better. Whole different sport; wrong crowd here

Conti G.P 4000's.  Put over 1,100 miles on my first set without a single flat.  Only complaint is I replaced the rear before last race because it looked really worn and tread indicators were gone.  I would have expected better miles than that.

I'm thinking the same thing, especially if they feel really good.

Yeah, just 'cause one vendor has it wrong...

The original model was called the Pro Race, thus Pro Race 2 for the new version.

To the guy running 145psi in his tires: you may be losing efficiencies due to bounce and loss of contact with the road. There's an article around here somewhere to that very effect... High psi tires work well in perfect conditions like track racing. In the real world, not so much.

I have the Conti GP 4000s too. The tires were very hard for me to put on the rim. If I ever get a flat during a race it will take me forever to change it.

The "wha?" was not for 175 psi, it was for the assertion that rolling resistance goes to zero.

well, apparently the manufacturer has it wrong as well.

I believe the product line is called Pro, then the next generation is Pro 2, then the sub-products are Pro 2 race, Pro 2 light, Pro 2 grip, etc.

Wow, talk about a pointless argument in semantics! Cool

Conti Gator skins have helped go flatless since I changed to them. I encounter a lot of beer bottle glass on the roads around here. My last flat was a dry rotted valve stem that blew during inflation.

I recently deflated my front Gatorskin after not having removed it in almost 2 years.

Edit to add: I deflated it in order to change tires, not because it was going flat or anything.

There were tiny grains of glass embedded in several locations around the perimeter of the tire. Never any air loss as a result. Amazing product.

My wha was for the 10K miles... i get about 2K out of a set of tires.  I didn't doubt the 175psi but the feel of riding on rocks seems unpleasant to me.
