Subject: Running pants for those who are vertically challenged

Hello -I am 5'2" and it's getting cold here in Wisconsin.  I can not find a single pair of running pants to fit me - they are all entirely too long.  I have a hard enough time running without having to worry about tripping over my too long pants.  Does anyone have any recommendations for running pants for us petite women?  I need something that I can wear throughout the winter so it will need to keep me warm!

Thanks!

That would be my suggestion - I'm not that much taller than you, OP (not quite 5'3", but all my height is in my legs, so I never have this problem. Not sure what else to tell you, except that I know some "outdoorsy" brands in general are shorter on me - like REI's pants are generally not as long as I would like. Might just take some hunting around.

I'm 5'3" and tend to buy running pants at the capri length.

I think sewing nylon might not be a good idea for me.  I used to sew patches and stuff in the military, but that stuff is easy.  I have a problem with most running pants, as I have a 29 inch inseam and wear size L.  Even if I drop down to a medium soon, I don't think the legs will be short enough.  Is there any apparal maker who makes different inseam sizes?

Oh, and I end up wearing running tights, and last week my 6 year daughter old said, "Daddy, you look like a ballerina."  nice.

Depending on what exactly you are looking for, you could just buy some leg warmers. They end about mid thigh under your running shorts and you have a fair amount of room for overlap there to play with. A second thought is that you could look in the, sorry to say this, children's section. Some teen clothing is probably the correct length for you. Sewing machine will work if all else fails. Alternatively you could just wear some stylish long johns under your shorts, they come in varying lengths as well.

Target carries petite sizes in the athletic section. I don't seem to have too much of a problem with the running tights in the regular length. I hear ya though on long pants! It's frustrating!

I was hoping this would be about people who need tall pants. My inseam is 35" and I can't find a running tight that covers my ankles!! The men's tights don't fit right and fall down, and the women's all stop way too short for winter running. Maybe you can send me the extra!

Hehe, that's hilarious

Am I just a freak of nature, then, being a short person (just under 5'3" ) but not having any issue with "regular" length pants?

Yeah, you can send me some of that extra fabric as well!! I also have the problem of tights being waaay too short. At least you do have the option of shortening them...

Awww!  That's sweet in a weird way!!

Thanks for the replies everyone.  I promise to keep any extra material I have to cut off and send it off to those in need.

Happy Friday!

Same here, and I also go with tights. My family, however, is not so nice. Apparently I have one pair that, according to my wife, make my a$$ look huge. My 9-year-old daughter said, "Dad, that's just wrong." I'm a guy, so I don't care if my a$$ looks huge.

I actually wear petite clothes too and I'm 5' 4". Believe it or not, I actually look at the children's section and I can usually find something that works. That being said, I just bought a pair of running tights at REI in the women's section. They are called the Nike FIT fitness tight and I love them. They are not long on me at all. I know you're 2" shorter than me, but I bet they'd work. You might have a little bunching on your ankles, but not much. I know how frustrating it is to find pants that fit...ugghhh! Good luck!

I do 1 of 3 things

1) I cut the pants.  No sewing but will have fringes

2) I buy petites/short lengths.  My running store carries some.

3) I buy capris.  I bought a pair of skins capris and it amuses me that they are the perfect length.

A lot of the tights I wear are skin tight and I don't think 2-3" of fabric would be an issue. If they are loose pants yes...but something like CWX compression tights are more adjustable..they would just be a little wrinkly vs hanging over your foot like normal pants.

I buy running pants in the kids department. I just buy a large or an extra large and the pants are the perfect length. Being 5'1" definitely helps you get some cheaper clothes

Try http://www.athleta.com- I find many options there for the more petite running pants.

Try Sporthill. Some of their pants have a petite option.

Ok, I am way more vertically challenged then all of you, 4'10" on a good day! I wear compression tights, not pants (like KathyG suggested).  So far my favorite are CW-X, but I am thinking of giving the new ZOOTS a try.  While they might be a little long, it really doesn't matter you can pull them down over your socks and you are go to go.  Plus you have the benefit of the compression material which I really like.

No, while I'm not in your camp, I'm 5'3" and a good 4 inches taller than a good friend of mine, and 1/2 in taller than my Mom, yet BOTH of their hips are a couple of inches higher than mine cause I'm LONG body and short legs. So, I totally suffer form the OP's issue!! I have to buy petite pants and regular tops...

For the OP--let me echo Kathy's comment on the compression stuff--that stuff is great, and the good thing is, if it is way to long, you can turn it up and it'll stay that way too, so some extra length there shouldn't plague you too much...just go with the nice compression stuff.

I buy pants in kid sizes too, as petite sizes are still too long for me. I'm 4'8" and am unfortunately often stuck buying kids clothes.
