Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So my daughter calls us about 6 PM last night, saying she & her friend were done watching the movie they'd gone to see (the Hobbit -- they hated it). This was 1/2 hour earlier than expected, and when asked about it, she said they stopped the movie, and the police were there because of some guy. Uh.....what?? I have no idea what happened to the person of interest, or if anything came of it, but still a very odd situation. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Glad to hear that nothing happened and everyone is safe. I'm a bit surprised that the theater would even allow someone inside with a duffle bag. Most theaters don't allow anything bigger than a purse, mainly to prevent people from bringing in their own food and drinks. (The theaters make most of their profits from the consessions rather than the movie itself.)

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I went to see the Hobbit on Christmas and partway through the movie a guy wearing military fatigue pants got up...probably to use the bathroom...it's a long movie....but you can imagine it got my attention. Sad that we no longer feel safe anywhere.... I think your daughter's lack of concern is simply innocence...which is probably a good thing honestly.... |

Maybe the movie ushers are more on the ball where you live. You could walk into most theaters here with an artillery shell over your shoulder and most of the employees couldn't be bothered to even notice, much less say something. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Either the guy doesn't have a TV, interwebs, and doesn't read the paper, or he really was kooky. Who the frack would bring a duffle bag into a theater after the last few months? That's a perfect way to get the po-po called on you! |

I often smuggle in a small backpack filled with water, apples, bananas, and trail mix. Can't stand the idea of buying the stuff in the theater. I could easily smuggle in a small weapon, but then again in our area it's probably already legal with a concealed gun permit.... Brian |

In fairness to the moive ushers how could they, I mean with having to respond to text's and view your friends FaceBook updates, I think that is expecting too much. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Turns out this made the local news, and fortunately it was a harmless thing. It was a homeless guy who had gone in (not sure how he got into the theater, etc) and he later turned up a nearby restaurant. Police came & took him to a local hospital to make sure he was OK and get him checked out. Glad thats all it was. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It's good that they were alert, but as was mentioned earlier it wouldn't be much of a challenge to smuggle weapons into a theater. My coat is always bulging with Gatorades when I go to the movies. ![]() |

With the high rate of mental health problems among people who end up homeless, I'm glad they found him and got him help. Many law enforcement agencies have only in the last decade started providing training on how to constructively deal with people who experience mental illness. and I'm VERY glad that's all it was. |

You mean by taking them to the hospital so they can be released in a day or so? Yeah, it's very constructive. |

Yeah, it's very constructive. I'm comparing it to when Officer Schmuckatelli beat-up the mentally ill homeless guy, threw him in jail for a day to "sober him up" (when he's not drunk, he's bipolar or schizophrenic), THEN released him to the street. Maybe the hospital can help for a day or two. I know it's not a long-term solution, but it's an improvement over what's been done in the past. |

I've been a cop for 27 years.....it's a joke. You have no idea what you are talking about. I'm sorry, not trying to be rude....you just don't know. This country better wake up and get a handle on what to do with the mentally ill among us....it's a much more pressing problem than gun control, or anything else you can think of, when it comes to serious crimes against persons. Funny how the crazy gal who threw a person in front of the subway train in New York barely makes the news........I guess it would have been different if it would have fit someone's agenda. It is not my intention to start another "gun thread"....but the fact is, NOBODY has the stomach for a "mentally ill" thread. Unfortunately, there are those among us who need to be separated from society......no matter how politically correct, touchy-feely you want to be about it. Edited by Left Brain 2012-12-31 5:38 PM |

I've never visited the States will I be paranoid about guns if I ever do? Who knows - what I'm trying to say is itss all relative and what's normal for one country/state will not be for others but feeling safe is half the battle.
