Champion 26509 Sydney | Subject: Purple People Eaters Team Thread Welcome to the Running Challenge Suggested by one of the team the Purple People Eater was made famous due to the Rock’n’Roll song. These monsters were said to posses one eye, one horn, fly and at people. As a suggestion google it… some of the images are fascinating!
Your team line up is:
Please introduce yourself to your team below with your goals for the challenge and running in general, what they are training for as well as names and any other general info. You will also need to nominate/select/volunteer a Team Leader whose role will be to collect the commitments for each runner and collect your team results every Monday. Your running time must be logged in your BT Log for verification purposes, but you are responsible for reporting your weekly results to your Team Leader on Mondays, this is done by posting an update in your team thread in the challenges forum unless the team prefers another method. Attached to this post is an excel excel spreadsheet to be used by the Team Leader for your team tracking and should be sent to me on Tuesdays AM so I can get an challenge update post in the forum by Wednesday each week. The spreadsheet includes the details of any team members who have already made a challenge commitment. I will be maintaining a Team Leaders thread for any queries, questions etc so if there are any problems please let me know. This is a team competition so please support your team mates with inspires, motivation and encouragement as well as pledge your allegiance in your sig line, log and even avatar! Good natured sledging and competition with the other teams is part of the fun so feel free to stir up a bit of friendly rivalry. Most importantly this is all about fun and you reaching your goals!!!! So…time to get running! Let the challenge begin!! Attachments ---------------- Poison Apples Tracking Sheet.xls (14KB - 45 downloads) |

Veteran 189 Okiehoma | Subject: RE: Purple People Eaters Team Thread Go Team Purple People Eaters! At least it was wasn't one eyed, one horned flying purple people eater team. We could have been the OEOHFPPET! <--- Points to side bar... Hi, as it says, I am Kazho, currently residing in the ATL and getting ready for a move to OKC at the end of the month. I am not yet a triathlete, but hoping to become one at my first race this weekend. My running has been plagued by shin splints since I started training in June, but I am hoping I have worked out most of those kinks. I am down for 25 miles this month which will be a record high for me. If all goes well this month, I am hoping to start training for a half marathon over the winter. Who's next? |

Master 2429 Falls Church, Virginia | Subject: RE: Purple People Eaters Team Thread Okay, me next! Hi I'm Laura. I've done one mini-tri and one sprint, but this year I'm really focusing on the running. I'll be doing the Disney marathon in January (my first!) so I joined the challenge to help me get through the slog of miles Hal Higdon's program has dictated for me. I'm a pretty slow runner, and I seem to be plagued by blisters, but other than that I really like it. So far with running I've done two 5k's and a 10k, but those were all last year. I'm pretty psyched about the marathon, though. I think I'm built for distance. I've pledged to do 94 miles for the month of October. Anybody else awake yet this fine morning? |

Pro 4189 Pittsburgh, my heart is in Glasgow | Subject: RE: Purple People Eaters Team Thread Hiya, I'm Tracey. I'm an American currently living in Glasgow, Scotland. Originally, I was going to train for the Edinburgh Marathon, but turns out that it is the same weekend as my brother's wedding, soooo...plan B, for Belfast Marathon. I'm trying to do a lot of running for rowing, and trying to really get myself back into running shape after having a pretty disappointing and non-existent race season this year. I've got to try to run around/work around the challenges of writing a thesis this year as well, so this will be a time management challenge for me as well. |

Elite 3067 Cheesehead, WI | Subject: RE: Purple People Eaters Team Thread Hey folks! My name is Sarah, live in Wisconsin, married to a non-triathlete, one kiddo - son who's 4 (and completed his very first triathlon this summer!), work part time at a Y but looking for new 'career' direction after losing a job a year ago, and always up for a challenge. I am pretty regular with training -- I find working out to be cathartic, stress relieving, and love to see the physical results (plus I LOOOOVE ice cream so need all the time I can in the saddle, running or swimming ) I have pretty much worked out on some level for years but didn't find triathlon til a year ago last summer at the spry age of 43. Running is not a strong suit for me (and I find it hard to build any speed/endurance). And now I want to concentrate on loving my run sessions! I've done a handful of sprints and now want to gear up for an Olympic distance tri this summer so need more distance/speed. When I first started last summer, I ramped up too fast and suffered with achilles tendonistis for a while. I now don't increase too much too soon and STRETCH! lots. I signed up for a 4 mile race in November so this challenge will help me with that goal. I usually run a short brick after a spin class, and then a short distance before weight training, (both on treadmill) then a long run on Saturday am (outside). I commit to 45 miles in October. Looking forward to supporting our group. I'm sure we'll kick some booty! |

Master 2235 Pacific Northwest | Subject: RE: Purple People Eaters Team Thread Happy Monday, fellow teammates! I am Leslie, a 38-year-old stay-at-home-mom from the Seattle suburbs. I've just finished my first tri season, completing four sprints and having a great time doing it. I am going to do an Oly next season, so I need to increase my run distances. I have run a 10k in the past for a training run, twice actually, but would like to eventually get to the point where a 10k is an easy run for me, like a 5k is now. A year ago I couldn't run at all. In the past 12 months I have lost 50 pounds, and I feel so much better. I'd love to lose more pounds over the winter.....we shall see....my body type is not one of a runner. I don't mind it, but after about 30 min my breasts start hurting no matter how many bras I wear! Argh. General info, huh? Well.....My kids are 4 2/3 and almost 2 (next week). Both boys, high energy. They keep me extremely busy chasing them all the time, and I play a lot of trains! My husband is a non-exerciser, so that's a challenge for me....he swears he's back on the couch-to-5k plan starting today..... What else......hmm...if I can get my act together soon, I am going to try out for the roller derby in November! Just need to work on my skating skills, which haven't been put to use in many decades. I am really competitive, so when I get into a race situation I go for it, trying to pass people. I was a college rower at the University of Washington, and both of my parents used to do triathlons, and my sister does triathlons, and my son wants to do a triathlon....so it's in the blood. I love being online on the BT site, way too much, and appreciate inspires a lot! My past life I was an employee health educator and wellness consultant, and also taught medical students how to examine patients. Besides other things. Once I was a snake (boa constrictor) demonstrator at the science center. So I have a wide variety of interests. I love to cook, knit, read and never turn down a fancy cocktail Challenge goals: I think I signed up for 30 miles this challenge. I did 2.6 this morning, yay! 27.4 to go. I hope to go over 30 miles. I'd also like to decrease my per mile time to around 8:30 consistently. I can hit it sometimes, but usually just for shorter runs. I will hopefully do a 5k, a 5-mile, and a 10k event this month......so there...that's me! Glad to meet you all! |

Extreme Veteran 482 | Subject: RE: Purple People Eaters Team Thread Hey team...my name is Michael but you can call me Mike...or Mark or Morty or pretty much any male name that starts with "M" like everyone else here on BT...long story. I set my goal at 60 miles which is what I ran this past month. Challenging part is that I am actually back to work now after two weeks off and also have a couple work related trips scheduled for this month so we shall see. Running shoes don't take up too much space in a suitcase so there should be no excuse. I currently live in Southern Alabama about 75 minutes north of Panama City Beach, Florida. We are in the process of selling our home and moving to Denver, CO over the next few months so that is pretty exciting. I have met tons of great people through BT and look forward to getting to know all of you. Michael |

Veteran 146 Texas | Subject: RE: Purple People Eaters Team Thread Hello TEAM, this should be fun. I’ve been around BT for about the last 6 months and am an editor in cancer medicine research, living in Houston. Just finished up the September challenge and raced twice this season (one was yesterday, here's my RR if you want to read about an ankle strap sinking to the bottom of the lake. Got it though!). Have mostly a running background and am shooting for 50 miles, hopefully at least about 10 of it on trails. Next up is a Houston ½ Marathon relay this month, and a bike time trial along the Guadelupe River in the first week in November. Glad to meet you all! Sara |

Elite 3494 Renton, Washington | Subject: RE: Purple People Eaters Team Thread Well hello folks!!!! It's me. Lynne. No, not Scot! Lynne! I'm a Scottish lassie living in Seattle since 1998 (almost 10 years) I started doing triathlons in April this year. As of October 13th I'll have competed in 8! I'm trying to become a better runner and have been pretty much doing challenges since I joined. I haven't won any yet but don't let that put you off!
I am married to Ron who seems to be suffering from arthritis at the moment, he's been joining me at the pool lately which in our 10 years of marriage is a 1st! I'm looking forward to this challenge and even though I'm not a great runner I'm a bloody fantastic talker of smack. Oh yeah Bring it on beyotches! Doing a 5K this Sunday and a 5 mile run on the 20th then a pumpkin push too so hopefully I will surpass my 6 hours I have chosen.
Please don't let the thick Scottish accent put you off, I'm really rather nice |

Winter is setting in where I am (Lake Tahoe), so I'm pretty sure most of my running will be on the treadmill. Ugh! But, with a 1/2 Marathon at the end of the month, this is the perfect challenge for me. Other than running, I can often be found doing the snow dance. ~Kendra |

Master 2235 Pacific Northwest | Subject: RE: Purple People Eaters Team Thread Good morning PPEs! Who is running today? I ran yesterday so I am biking and possibly swimming today, but I wanted to give a shout out and a hurray to you guys who are putting on your running shoes! How far? Where? We have a lot less posts on here than the other teams, so I am going to investigate what they are up to and report back. In the meantime, let's do some chatting! |
