I'm planning on doing the race and hope to register soon. Anyone know how full it is?

Not ideal time of year for MA triathlete for HIM but Keith puts on great races and similar considitions to IMFL. My husband wants to do the sprint the day before.

Plus I've always wanted to meet the TX BT crew

Come on, it's fun to train in the middle of winter : )  and thats one of the reasons we are doing the race also, Did Mooseman last year, Lonestar and Black Fly this year.

So Lonestar is going to be my first Half Ironman! Though I've never trained during the winter. I have a cycle ops magneto bike trainer and I'm wondering if 1 hour on the indoor trainer is the same as 1 hour on the road. I'm pretty sure they're completly different, but by how much?

Thanks,
Alex

Yeah...Kathy is coming to Texas!!!

If you are at all interested in staying at either Moody Gardens or the Inn at the Waterpark I would not wait too long to make a reservation.  I booked at the Inn about a month ago and they were already getting full.  Paid $99 a night.  Not bad to roll out of bed and into the transition area!

Yay! Kathy and KevinG in the Lone Star State!
Be sure to check out VRBO.com. I found a condo for $95 a night that I'm sharing with some friends from here.  It's only a mile from Moody Gardens, so really accessible as well.
This is a well run race (of course, it's Endorfun!) and gets better every year.  Did the quarter in '08, the HIM aquabike in '09, and will do the 70.3 in '10! One note for our Northern friends, it is the end of April, and that is nearly the beginning of summer here in TX, so it could be quite toasty for you Yankees.

I'm in for the HIM. I decided to do it so that I could have a race with an ocean swim and a course similar to IMFL since I'll be doing that in November. I've done the Longhorn 70.3 two years and Keith puts on great races, so I'm looking forward to it.

In for the half and scrambling for a decent place to stay... was thinking about an RV park, but so far that is a lost cause.  Ike did a number on those spots.

Thanks Brittany for the VRBO reminder.  Any other recommendations for hotels? I have found several close and not TOO expensive, but it would be nice to get first hand reviews or recommendations.

I'm in for the half, my hubby is doing the Oly so I'll be there all weekend and can't wait I stayed at the Inn last year, it was the perfect location. Decent price and right next to the race course so I would definitely recommend it if it's not full yet.

Moody Gardens is full. Our whole crew stays at the Inn at the Waterpark. Awesome, and just as close to transition as the Moody Gardens Hotel. If they're both full, there are a TON of hotels on the seawall that are all within a couple of miles. Hotel Galvez, San Luis, etc are nice. There's also La Quinta, which is close....

Tons of great places!

Oh, yeah, it's not REALLY an ocean swim. It's on the other side of the island. It is salt water, and IS, technically, part of the ocean. But, you won't face surf. It behaves more like a lake.

It can be choppy, if we get a strong northerly wind. If it's southerly, is should be flat...

Hey Keith, Can I put in a request now for no wind!

Also, do you predict that the wave starts will be similar to last year?

Yay!  Brittany is going to be there...

I'm in for my first HIM!  Hopefully less brutal than my first century at Katy Flatlands

I called the Inn yesterday and it was booked (no availibility for the night of the 24th).  There are a lot of hotels and many of which are very close (inside 3 miles for most of them).  The prices and the reviews are all over the map.  Still trying to iron out the schedule for the weekend... Friday & Saturday nights or just Saturday night.... decisions, decisions!

This is gonna be a great weekend of Tri-Fun!

Well, at least I'll get the swim in the salt water. I did swim a lap of the IMFL course when I was there to volunteer this year, so I know what I will face. Regardless, it will be a great race with lots of BTers, so it will be fun.

I officially registered!!

Now need to start training after goofing around after IM Canada last few months. The break was mentally good for me and I'm ready to get back normal schedule and following a plan.

Lonestar's going to be my first HIM! I'm really looking forward to it. Family's going to be there, so I'll have alot of motivation, I think they're making t-shirts too! We're taking orders now btw. hahaha

Anyway...What should I expect?

Alright, general question: If there was one thing you could have done differently on your first HIM, what would if have been?

Thanks,Alex
