What headphones do you use during your workouts?

Extreme Veteran  580  |  Subject: What headphones do you use during your workouts?Female triathlete seeking good sound quality headphones to be worn during long runs (unfortunately not on the beach) and long bike rides. Headphones that fall out of ears easily, have poor sound quality or do not resist sweat or the Texas heat need not apply. Headphones must understand they are for training only and will not be used in racing. Will someone help me find my match? |

They are the ones that cover the ears, no going inside the ears. I like these because they don't cancel noise, you can still hear people coming up behind you unlike the ones that go inside the ear. |

I just tried a Sony pair like this and even with the volume turned all the way up, I would not have been able to hear my audio book while cycling because of wind noise. They were comfortable, but just not loud enough (and I think my hearing is fine!) for me. |

They've worked real well for my runs. I don't listen to music on bike rides because I'm riding alongside cars and I like it when there aren't any surprises from cars....It feels like I'm disconnected from reality enough when I run---i don't like the feeling as I ride, but then again, the first few miles of my rides are getting out of suburban neighborhoods where there are lots of cars/pedestrians. |

Not sure if you know or not, but if your using an iPod you can increase the volume in the settings deep in the firmware of the unit. It actually can really pump out, by default it is a lot lower in volume. |

In addition, I can pull them out and let them fall around my neck and still hear the music, when I need to hear what is going on around me.

I really like that they have a short cord so that if you wear your mp3 player on your arm or collar (I clip my shuffle there) that you don't have to deal with a long cord flopping around. More because this is what I bought for my ipod and I just leave them in for when I use them running. There are rules on base dealing with wearing headphones, such as if you are running on the street instead of the running trails you cannot have headphones in. Same thing applies to driving and riding. |

They're the earbud style with a clip that goes over the ear to hold them in place. They always stay put for me. I like it LOUD and have no complaints about their volume level. They usually last about 8 months or so, sweat and all. I pay about $15 at Radio Shack. |

I actually pick on people I see with them on when exercising. But, just a word about Skull Candy. They are a local company based in Park City. They do a lot of the local community including sponsoring a cycling team and several races in the area. I own a pair of Bose in ear for my iPod when I travel, but I prefer my Skull Candy buds any day of the week. Mike |

It would probably be safer without them all of the time, but solo long rides and runs get very lonely! |
