Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 88 people overall (11th) and 7 in my AG. The swim was pretty miserable, I'm sure in the coming days you can probably read all kinds of horror stories about it. I had an abysmal time (not that doing a 1.2 in the middle of trying to change your stroke is a good idea anyways...but ya know...) but as it turned out most everyone did. I made a real mistake with my hydration on the bike. I had a Torhans 20 and a 30 and decided to go with the 20 (only water bottle) Rev3's half bike course had 3 water stops, but the third was about 8 miles from home. I ran out of water with about 20 miles to go and payed for it big time. Was on pace the first half for a 25.5 avg, second half was 22.2... I just melted down the last few miles. Got passed by at least 6 or 7 guys in the home stretch. Overall, got really lucky. But sometimes it's better to be lucky than good ![]() |

My son was there on Sunday too for his first HIM. I wasn't able to be there, but I heard from multiple people that the swim was really rough. It showed in my son's split too, but it didn't affect his bike or run. I'm front door bragging that at only 19 yo, in his first HIM he executed a smart race with steady pacing and no walking on the run after a summer of working nearly full time and two weeks after starting his Sophomore year of college. Of course, now he's lobbying me to let him race Rev3 Anderson on October 12th to punch his ticket for one of the 6 available slots for his AG at Rev3 Championships in Knoxville next May.

Don, there are worse things than paying for your son to travel all over the country racing. So far......I haven't identified them, but I'm confident they exist. Congratulations to him/you as well. |

So....will you do the world race in Chicago next year? Why wouldn't it? As far as I know there was AQ at worlds this year.........or was that just Aquathlon? Come to think of it, there was no Aquabike or Duathlon....but I know there is a Duathlon World Championship because a buddy of Jrs. went to Spain last year to compete. Surely USAT wouldn't miss out on a chance to hold a world championship Aquabike, would they? |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Aquabike has a notable history/reputation as an "injured" / "old" sport. Something you would just do either because you were injured/unable to run. So I can see it not getting much attention. I admit, I chose that race mainly because I thought there was a chance the swim would be harder than people expected ("Lake" doesn't really count) and because I could TT it without blowing my run (which I have a history of doing) |
