Subject: Gingerbread Joggers party & commiseration thread

To make things a bit easier to find (I have a hard time spotting the Team 3 thread) I thought maybe we should open a new one.  Feel free to add anything you like to it, and if you want to introduce (or re-introduce) yourself, that will be cool too!  I tried to cut and paste the team list but for some reason it won't copy correctly.  If someone with more brains and computer savvy than I have can do it, that would be much appreciated.

For those who haven't met me (or vice versa) I'm Max, a 59 year old cycling junkie, occasional swimmer, and grumbling runner.  It's the reason for doing the February challenge, to keep me honest on my training program for Ironman Arizona in November.  This will be my 4th Ironman, as I've done Lake Placid 3 times, but I turn 60 in a few months and moving up into a new age group has gotten me to wonder about improving my race time by training a little smarter.  In addition I've done a couple other stand-alone marathons, Marine Corps in D.C. and Gasparilla in Tampa.

I live in north-central Massachusetts, have been married to my 1st wife for over 34 years, and she tolerates me beyond what any woman should have to do.  I'm in for 60 miles of running this month.  I've had a history of getting running injuries, so my secret is to space the runs out far enough so that I avoid problems.  We'll see how it goes.

In my spare time I am secretly lobbying for men to start wearing running skirts, because they are comfortable, fashionable, and women shouldn't be having all the fun.  Yeah that's probably gotten me the label of being an "eccentric" but at my age I quit worrying about it.

See you out there on the roads...wave if you see me run by!!!

Ok, I think I am in the right place....according to the spreadsheet, I have been added to Team 3.

Soooooo.....

Name (if you'd rather us call you something than your signin):
Kurt. You can call me 5th if you want.

What's your goal?
40 miles, and I will hate every minute of it.

Are you training for any specific race yet?
Sorta, I have a few local sprints to choose from but have yet to sign up.

And, most importantly, are you more inspired by lovey messages or would a good kick in the pants suit you better? (We can do either, or both, at your request!)
I like both, so gimmie what you are feelin' at the time.

P.S. - max, is that your back in your avatar? Really cool tattoo!! I love pin-up/nose art girls. If my wife wouldn't kill me, I would get something like that

Hi Team!

For those of you who haven't learned to love running....better start loving it  SMILE, running is better than therapy and one good pair of running shoes probably costs the same as an hour in therapy.  Yeah, I'm just on an endorphin high since I just came in from my first run of the challenge month--an 8 mile loop

Well I'll commiserate since I hurt my toe yesterday...if you want to see a picture of the offending 12 pound mirror (and all the dust that I guess didn't fall off in the collision) and the lovely bruise that has formed on my toe, check out my training log .

Didn't help that I had to go to the firehouse last night for my biweekly duty crew and we had the busiest night we'd had in a long time. Seven calls...kept me up quite a bit...and the stupid steel toes in my boots definitely hurt my toe a tad. But I can walk on it with just a little pain and I can bend it without much pain either, so I'm hoping I'll be back to running soon. I'm skipping today's run and I'm not due to run again until Tuesday so we'll see how it feels then. If it still hurts, I'll be calling the doctor.

What really stinks is, while I suck at running and endurance, I was actually starting to kind of like it and it was not hurting as much. So I'll be peeved if my klutziness pushes my fitness back too much. Guess I could buy some water jogging equipment and do that if need be.

Okay, so anyone else ever screw up a toe and live to run relatively quickly?

Kelley,

Try buddy taping the toes while you recover.  If you aren't familiar with that it's place a small gauze between th injured toe and the one next to it and tape them together for support.

So let's get rolling and have a great month. Please introduce yourself...

Hi all
I am just checking in. I had my bike ride today and will be running on Monday. It was sunny today in Seattle and when it is sunny, I BIKE!!! I run in the hail and sleet and snow and other grossness but I bike in the sun!!!! SO....when you see the spreadsheet for the week don't freak out or anything.

I had quite a few inspires the last week of January because I hadn't hit 100% yet and I think some people were a little concerned that I might have been a mole or something...sabotaging their challenge team. But...alas, I did finish and lived to do it again this month.
So there you go...I WILL be running...I WILL be...I WILL be!!!!!
My mantra is actually I am a runner I am I am!!!!!

Best of everything

There's a little checkbox right above the SUBMIT button. It says "Disable HTML." If you check that, it shows your code.

It's the way she set it up.... She used a short-cut type of link, rather than the full link name.

If you put it in your log, it should work OK. (Based upon my quick inspection of the links, that is.) But if you click the links here, on the forum, it's not sure where to look.

Think of it this way: If I give you local directions to someplace in Seattle, you could probably find it - because you live in Seattle. (So it's the same area.)... But if I gave you local directions to a street in New Hampshire, you wouldn't be able to find it - because it's not in your neighborhood and you don't recognize the address.

This is the same kind of thing.

The links are set up to work from your log, which is a different "folder" than the forum's folder. So it gets lost when you're HERE, and ask it to go THERE.

I feel good about my start! 7.6miles in the first two days. BUT, I probably won't run again until Thursday as work has me busy Sun - Wed. I hope to get in a couple miles before then, but usually just hit the cycle trainer in the basement. It's just so much easier than wasting time going to the gym and all that hullabaloo. Running outside is a possibility, but the weather sounds like it may stink for the next couple days.

There is nothing better in this world than a smart woman.  You must be related to my wife.  If it weren't for her I'd be a useless pile of molecules.  Have you considered running for President?  You got my vote!

I can't figure out why anyone would want to be President lately. But I suppose we should keep politics out of this

It's snowing here today and I am at work, I work outside. 'nuff said.
