Good bye to Josh McDaniels of the Broncos.  I would paste the link but it does not say much.  Now we'll see how long it takes to clean up the mess he made!

I'm shocked. Not a Broncos fan but live out here so I follow it. I really did not see Bowlen pulling the trigger like this. I figured he'd give him another season, mainly because he now has to pay 3 head coaches next year (Shanahan, McD and the new guy).

I definitely thought he'd let McD finish the year.

An interesting early rumor circulating in the local media had Air Force coach Troy Calhoun being mentioned as a candidate.

I wonder if Bowlen will finally bring Elway on as a FO executive.

I'm pretty sure I heard that the Air Force guy said he's not interested in making a change.  I'm hearing rumors of Kubiak coming back to the Broncos if he ends up fired by the Texans.  McDaniels just made some very weird decisions.

Interesting that Bolen had dinner with Elway last night.  Wonder if we'll see Elway GM and Kubiak coach.  There are also rumor of Calhoun.  Not sure I like that as he doesn't have much if any pro experience.

So the Denver Broncos will have to pay him for two more years of his contract.  Not sure how much they have left to pay for Shanahan.    Coaching....be bad at it, get fired, keep getting paid and train for triathlons ....that's what I would do.

I read in the Denver Post that they might try and get out of the contract because of the Practice Video Taping situation that just occurred.  If that works for them then he won't be paid, but I doubt it stands up.

Plus Shanny is getting paid from Washington also - not a bad gig at all huh?

I'd say that's grounds for dismissal based on conduct and not a simple poor performance issue. I'd side with ownership on that jury.

wgraves7582 - 2010-12-06 9:02 PM Adios McDaniel - hopefully he doesn't turn out like Bilicheck after his dismal time in Cleveland and win all those games for some other team.

I was surprised he made it out after the Raider game, very surprised he survived last week, and very happy that he was fired today.

Time to bring in someone to return us to glory!!!

Speaking as a once proud Redskins fan, you can have Shanahan back.

I don' think that there are too many Bronco fans that would want to see Shanahan come back.  Not that he's a bad coach.  I believe the Skins are lucky to have him.  Your expectations might be a little high for his first year.  But in all honesty, if Shanahan did come back it would be much better than the knucklehead we had to endure the past 2-seasons!  He totaly messed up an already productive offense.  Proved he's an idiot during the draft, And goes 3 & 6 before getting caned!  Some zit-faced pee-wee footbal coach could have done better.  One thing though, McDaniels is a much humbler man than he was last year at this time.

@COskigirl...

Calhoun did say he was not interested in taking the CU job, but I can virtually guarantee you that he will listen intently to the Broncos if they want him. He has ties to the organization (Coached there w/Shanahan) and NFL experience. The money would be exponentially greater compared to CU or USAFA

@Mrbbrad....

Come on man! We need to give Shanahan at least 3 years before we judge him. He'll make you proud to be a fan again. Now, it's McNabb that I'm worried about so far, but again, we should give him a couple years in the system before judging.

His name came up for other coaching jobs in the year or two before the 'skins hired him and even then I questioned whether he was still as good a coach as he once was. He kind of wilted away at the end in Denver. I remember thinking that I would not want him for my team. Fast forward to when they hired him and I still felt the same way. Never mind the fact that I cannot stand Daniel Snyder and what he has done to my once beloved franchise. The first hint of the fall of an empire was the signing of Deion Sanders, then all the coaching hirings and firings, the sad return of Joe Gibbs, the waste of money on Hainesworth, and now McNabb. Having spent the last 20 years in Philly, I know what 5 is and I don't like it one bit. I was raised in the DC area, grew up with Billy and Sonny. Cheered for Theisman and Rypien. Danced in the streets when they won Superbowls.  I moved to Philly and still bled burgundy and gold. Now I feel like a man without a country. Damn you Daniel Snyder.

Sorry. Back to the coaching situation in Denver........

While McDaniel did make some strange and sometimes rash decisions on players ets...at what point do you have to look at the players as being culpable in this too....the defense has been less than stellar...missed assignments, tackles, coverage etc ....those are player issues not coaching...if you don't perform in your job - do you get fired or your manager?..

The trouble with fans and owners today is impatience...they want immediate results and don't give time for coaches to learn or develop teams....the grass is always greener with a new coach...

I am sure he will get another job in the NFL because another team is always on the lookout for a new coach and the same names keep getting jobs despite failure in their work history....or hire the flavour of the month...aka the next McDaniel and repeat the last two years with no lesson learned...

FWIW - I don't think great players necessarily make good coaches either so Elway may not be the instant cure Bowlen seeks....

Although he made some bad personnel moves it didn't seem like he was a terrible coach.  Put him with a good GM and he'd do well.  He can't be worse than what he was have here in SF....

I honestly think you folks in Frisco are gonna get Chucky.
Your team's got solid talent...if only you had an above average quarterback.

On the McDaniels front...wow!  I can't remember a coach doing this much damage to a team in as short a span of time as McDaniels had.
Brandon Marshall
Peyton Hillis
Tim Tebow?
I feel sorry for Broncos fans.

mrbbrad mentioned the 'skins.  #5 is the least of the 'skins' problems.  The defense is pathetic!  I don't care if you have Tom Brady under center, put him on the 'skins and you still aint making the playoffs.  #5 isn't responsible for the league's worst defense.

I've not heard anything about Elway coaching, only being part of the FO.

Calhoun has now re-signed with Air Force, after McDaniels was fired.  I'm betting he doesn't want the Broncos job.

Re: Calhoun...

You are probably right, and I would be surprised to see him get the job at this point, but I'm not convinced he's out of the running, even with the new contract and recent statement he made.

College coaches do this a lot....IE say they are staying/happy whatever, only to be swayed by the challenge and money of the NFL or higher profile job.

And it happens to be right in the heart of the recruiting season, so even if he had designs to interview with Denver, I doubt he'd indicate it yet.

But again, from all outward appearances you are right, he looks happy at USAFA....good for him too....that is a great institution, and I imagine it must be very satisfying for him to consistently be a top 25 team with his recruiting limitations. And he gets to work with great kids who obviously love and respect him.

I'll say no chance on Meyer to Denver next year. The guy is burnt out with health issues and has made it abundantly clear that Mrs. Meyer and the family are next in line.

If he wanted to go to the NFL he'd just say so.

UF would bend over backwards to allow him to do whatever he wanted career wise. If you read his resignation remarks, you'd have to say that he's the most disingenuous guy to ever walk a sideline if he backtracks and goes to Denver next year.

I think most of the sports world agrees Meyer is not Nick Saban and most everyone agrees he is not coaching in the NFL or anywhere for a while.
