Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Okay, here's my dilemma. I signed up for Team in Training last night. I would love to raise money for cancer research. That's not the problem. My problem is that the team training runs are on Sunday at 7 a.m. This is the best time for the running coaches. I've got church at 10:30. While I know that this is probably enough time to get from the run to home to church, this is a volunteer-based thing and I don't want to give up Sunday mornings. After all, I'll be raising money for them. We (hubby and I) have enough trouble getting to church on time as it is. Plus, if I ever did want to get more involved at church, there's no way. And longer runs aren't going to fit in that 7 a.m. schedule. Also, I've checked the TNT web site as thoroughly as possible and there's not really any mention of mandatory number of team meetings we have to attend. Training's not the problem. I can do that on my own. And I know some of the point of this is team building. Does anybody know the policy? Any advice on what to do in this situation? The more I think about it, the more frustrated I get... |

The Original ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ooh- that's tough. We have our GTS's for runners on Saturday mornings. That workd for me since I have church on Sunday. What you could do, is try and meet some of the teammates for shorter runs during the week, and then do your long runs when you can. And make sure to stay involved and particiapte in any TNT chapter get togethers, fundraising events, etc so that you'll still feel like part of the team ![]() Edited by runnergirl29 2005-11-09 10:06 AM |

Giver ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() As a TNT coach, I schedule weekly runs when they are convenient for the majority of my participants. It's always worked out that they are on Sat. AMs because of that. Talk to your coach, explain your dilemma and see if maybe he can poll the participants as to when they would like the training sessions to be. It should be more about the participants' and less about the coach's convenience. As far as I know, there is no mandatory participation in group activities. I do require one, that being a long run to assess fitness to comlete the race on race day. Everything else is optional. But that being said, I've found that the people that are the most successful in the program (both from a training standpoint and from a fundraising standpoint) are those that are the most active in the group activites. watergirl - 2005-11-09 9:56 AM Okay, here's my dilemma. Training is to some degree about personal sacrifice, maybe it's not ultraconvenient for you to train at this time, but we're talking maybe every other week for four months, total of eight GTSs. Still plenty of Sundays in there if you "ever did want to get more involved at church" (sheesh). With the GTS starting at 7, you can get up to 2 1/2 hours in and still have an hour to get ready for church. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So it's okay to go every other week? That's part of the confusing part. I wasn't complaining, just trying to understand. I've worked with Relay for Life, so I know some about giving up time to an incredible worthy cause. I guess mostly it's that I was so excited about the whole thing, and the seemingly firm announcement that Sunday a.m. was team training kind of deflated my excitement because I'm thinking that it's an every week commitment. That's why I asked for advice/help. And also I wanted to get a feel on whether it can be done. Sheesh back at ya, bear. It's not church involvement that I'm really worried about. Does training on Sunday morning honor God? I don't just go to church or run or join TNT for me. Call me crazy, religious, whatever. It's a dilemma. Edited by watergirl 2005-11-09 10:45 AM |

Queen BTich ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() There are sacrafices to any training program or group. If you try to balance, a little of both get taken away. Try giving up family for most of a year...sigh. Anyway, does your church have services on Saturday evenings? Problem solved. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Wow. I'm getting way too serious. I can't hold serious very long. If I can run on Sunday afternoons, then my problem is getting my butt out of bed. Thanks for the help and letting me vent. Anybody else running the marathon in Nashville? |

It's a dilemma. The "sheesh" was directed to the wishy-washy "ever did want to" part, not the church involvement part. Personally, I feel my long Sunday runs are a lot more spiritual than any hour spent with my butt glued to a pew. I did Country Music back in 2004. Not a bad race, though it was hot hot hot. Elite![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() If TNT is a burden, why not drop them and do the training on your own. If supporting the charity is important to you, contribute at will. Last thing you need is to make your life needlessly difficult or to add stress just to get some workouts in. |

That's what I'm worried about. The last thing I want TNT to become is a burden. Relay for Life sucked up my time, but I loved it! I want to be able to give TNT my best. |

The idea is to inspire others to contribute as well, Chucky, and yes we do that through personal effort and sacrifice. You are right, however, if you're viewing it as a burden or added stress before you even start, then reconsider. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks for having a high commitment level to your church - :-) As a pastor, I really appreciate folks like you. I understand the above comments about sacrifice being a part of training; however, I see serving sacrificially in your church as a higher calling. We've got 6 whole days to train.....1 morning to serve Christ (in the ususal church). Doesn't sound out-of-balance to me. Keep up the Good Work! :-) |

In Augusta, we have GTSs every Saturday (with the exception of a couple of hollidays. |

I do weekly group trainings as well, just label two per month as "official" GTSs to avoid the bureaucratic BS that our chapter requires. The non-official rides are completely optional, ride at your own risk. |
