That dog came from behind to attack that kid! He was hunting the boy. He wasn't threatened and the kid never even saw the dog coming. WOW. That cat ROCKS! If that cat hadn't been there, who knows what would have happened.

I agree with you, but reality is that they do occasionally get out......it happens all the time.  That dog attacked unprovoked, the reality there is that almost NEVER happens.  I don't care who's responsibility it is, that dog needs to be put down.

I got attacked by a dog while out for a run in highschool. You know how they say "dont run! just stay still!" that's a crock. It just made it easier for the dog to run over and bite my leg. By the way it was also behind a fence. This was one of those huge dogs like from 'The Sandlot' and it actually jumped the fence to chase after me. It drew blood but the owner came out and stopped it, and i didnt think much of it so i just kept running and went home. When my sister found out she freaked out and got the police involved. As it turns out, the dog had not had its shots and had to be quarantined and it turned into a big mess. So when people laugh at me for carrying pepper spray when I go out running, I tell em that story. That poor kid in the video is probably going to be traumatized. Good kitty.

I would love to hear from an animal expert what instinctual thing kicked in with the cat.  Protective of the child?  Protective of their "territory"?  Self protection?  I would have figured a cat would have run unless some other bigger intuition kicked in.

I may do the wrong thing, but I found holding ground and actually taking a lunging step AT them and the once scary dog stops fast and just barks.  I'm sure I'm going to find the wrong dog to do that too, but if that's the case, nothing may help.  I have scared of big, little, scary and not so scary dogs with one big aggressive move towards them...  Granted, I'm big "prey" on neutral ground.  Funny to see some dog act tough, charging and barking, then skid to a halt and turn back (while barking over their shoulder) when I look like I'm going to attack THEM.

I was running with the bf at the time, and a dog was barking aggressively at us from behind a fence. It started jumping on the fence, and the dog bolted at us, barking.

The bf ran at the dog and screamed at it, and the dog ran away.

So, it at least worked once for me!

Dogs attack unprovoked all the time.  There are loads of people, myself included, who have been bitten by loose dogs when we were minding our own business.

Thank goodness for SuperCat.  I'm still trying to figure out why the mom left her kid after she initially went to him.  I'd be hauling his a$$ inside at that point.  Plenty of time to go deal with the dog later.

Actually, no they don't.  Dogs will attack runners because of their "chase" instincts, they will attack if you are in/near their territory, etc. You can almost always point to some reason, even when you do nothing. (not saying that's OK, just contiuning with the theme.

Dogs almost never do what that dog did if not in a pack......seek and attack, completely unprovoked..   When they do, you put them down.

Well then, this kid was in motion.  He was on his push bike.  The dog saw him and came after him.  So, looks like chase instinct.  Combined with bite, drag, maul and kill instinct.  Which plenty of dogs have.

That was a great video.  I'd seen bits and pieces of it on the news, but that version was expertly edited.  Those were the first shots that I saw of the damage to the kids leg, too.  It that was my neighbors dog, there would have been no discussion of whether the dog should be put down or not.

So not only did the cat save the boy, but it looks like it's going to put him through college, too!  And all our cat does is destroy curtains and crap in the dining room.  It ain't fair, I'm telling you.  It ain't fair.

Will sustained exercise at or near maximum heart rate increase the risk of heart damage, or heart failure. Is the cardiac muscle also subject to strain and damage as other muscles?
