Subject: RE: Which Protein Powder????Again, you really need to understand and define what it is you want to accomplish? If your goal is to getter faster and stronger in swim/bike/run then it is as simple as doing your training and eating correctly. There is no need to supplement anything if you eat right. If you find that even with adequate nutrition that you are still losing weight during training, then check with a sports medicine doc. and/or nutritionist to see if any adjustments can be made to facilitate a more even metabolism. Or if it is really extreme, then they will suggest some sort of dietary supplement. For the average endurance athlete, there is absolutely zero need to add protein or weight gain supplements. You should always strive to handle everything through your food intake because it is healthier for you and tastes much better. A big part of the bodily adapatations to endurance sports is the leaning out of your muscles. As long as you are eating the right kind of foods and getting enough recovery in, your body will find its "ideal" weight for the activity you are doing. Indicators that you are not getting enough nutrition are continued weight loss, lethargy, slow time to recovery, prolonged achiness, tired all the time, etc. The ket thing to remember is, there is no real NEED for a supplement. It should be handled through your regular diet. Red meats, fish, beans/rice/wheat, etc. are all really good sources of protein. Stay away from too much soy if you can ......... My favorite protein supplement and recovery food? A pint of Ben and Jerry's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ....... yeah, it's only 16gr of protein, but 1,200 calories of sugary goodness!
