Regular![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() ...not sure what to think. When i went in, I assumed this would take around an hour after all the research i have done on this forum and on the web. i was in and out in 20 mins. Andreas, the manager I am assuming, tweaked the seat and actually moved it up and that was about it. i already had a bike, but tempe bicycle never offered that free fitting. what else goes into a bike fit that supposedly takes an hour? i was also dissapointed in that the only reason it took 20 mins is we stopped numerous times for his friends to come in and make small talk and when i was done i said thanks and he didnt even acknowledge me. is andreas normally like this? people speak highly of tribe and my experience was not very good. i kinda feel like for 75 bucks i got ripped off. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I like the people at Tribe, I don't like the business part of Tribe so much. (Especially if you don't spend major bux every time you go in.) I had the same experience with fitting, Kevin had me on the trainer and played with the seat height, and not much else. Kevin (different one) over at Paragon did a much more thorough job, I was there a little over an hour. He had lasers on my knees to check the tracking, did the hip angles, all of that. Much better fitting (And this was BEFORE he went through the FIST certification process.) IIRC, my cost was around $200, but that also included a new stem and all the work to swap components from my old frame to the new one. I'd highly recommend the shop and the fitting process there. Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The distracted fitter is a common issue there. I had an hour long fit mainly because he kept getting distracted with friends showing up. He would disappear for 10 minutes while I sat on the trainer in the office. Lame customer service. This is basically why I don't shop there. |
![]() ![]() |
Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Everytime I go into tribe I get lame service. I first thought it was because I am fat. Last year the owner was the race announcer for the Anthem reverse and made fat comments. Now I know it's because they just suck at customer service. |
![]() ![]() |
Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I think that is the biggest thing. It seems like they're always distracted and don't focus on one customer at a time. I understand the issue, where you don't want to ignore people walking in, but heck, just say hi to them and you'll be right with them and focus on who you're helping now. -Jot |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() For what it's worth, I had a very good experience with Vanessa at Landis on Southern in Tempe. She spent nearly two hours with me and changed the seat height, slid it forward, changed out the stem (I had to pay for the new stem, of course), adjusted the cleats on my bike shoes, and even had me try a few different saddles. No lasers or anything like that, but for the price (I think the base fit was $70; my total was $140 because of the stem and they changed out a shift cable). |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The ONE and only time I've had a positive experience at Tribe was when I was looking to make a purchase over $500. Every single other time I've walked into the store, I've felt like I was nothing more than a distraction to them. I've had a $100 gift certificate since Christmas. I need to spend it, but I hate feeling the way I do when I go there. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm hoping to get a tri bike around Jan. In this economy I'll be shopping around for sure. I plan on going to tribe but it will probably be the last place I go. If I get the best deal there then I'll but it from them. Honestly, I've stopped going there because it seems as though they're a$$holes to people that aren't top triathletes. I've had experiences where Kevin has been completely cool and experiences where he's been nothing but a complete douche. I'm willing to give them a shot but they're not at the top of my shopping list. |

Awesome, thanks! I'll have to read it before going shopping. I've bookmarked it.
I'll be looking at the P2C for sure and maybe a P3 if I can get a good deal on it. I'm also interested in Felt B2/B12 and I know somebody that has told me they could possibly get me any Trek at wholesale so I guess that makes the Equinox TTX 9.5 and option as well. Fit is king though and I'm planning on trying out several bikes. If I can get more bang for the buck in a P2 or one of the bikes that your article mentions then that maybe that will leave some money for carbon wheels or something else to pimp the ride.
I need to first pass the remaining sections of the CPA exam so I can get my hands on some bonus money to make this all happen. |

![]() | ![]() I get along fine at Tribe. Kevin does have a bit of a short attention span... but the catering to just top triathletes is a pharce as he treats everyone the same as far as I can tell. Andreas shouldn't have been doing the fitting... as Jot said... Kevin does all the fittings... although Andreas may have recently gone to school for it... not sure. Even though I am pretty loyal to Tribe, I went their and asked Andreas about the Jamis road bikes and he suggested I buy a used road bike so... I bought the Masi down at Tempe Bike. Now, if anyone has a gift certicate for Tribe... you can give it to me if you don't want to use it. ![]() |

He CAN be nice, but he does cater to the $$ people and he does have his bad times. John |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Kevin did my bike fitting last week on the P3c I ordered from them. I was surprised that it the fitting took SUCH a short amount of time.... but I think it fits? The fitting took about 15-20 minutes at the most, hmmm, I thought it would have taken an hour or so. |

![]() | ![]() Aaron, Some fittings take a very long time and some are a serious piece of cake. I am the fitter for Tribe. I take a lot of pride in setting people up on their bikes. I have had fits take 2+ hours before and I have had some that only take a few minutes. If I just verify and tweak a seat, most times I simply say "no problem" and they are on their way. I am the owner of the store and Andres does not have the authority to give away my bottom line. I do apologize that you felt "ripped off." Please come in at your earliest convenience for a full refund. I will never "rip" anyone off and I'm really bummed that you feel that way. Keep in mind... bikes purchased at my shop get a free fitting as it is and they are guaranteed. I do hope to see you soon. Robin, In my defense regarding the Anthem sprint; I too am gravity challenged. The comments are "Way to go fellow Clydesdale" and "Look out skinny people, you got a clydesdale on your tail" and "MAN! That big guy can really move." I apologize if their message was misconstrued. I will re-evaluate my phrases and revise. Being about 60 lbs overweight myself, I just have fun with it. I am also disappointed in myself that you feel that you are getting bad service. It is definitely a work in progress, but your bad experiences concern me very much. Please feel free to stop in and/or call so that I can learn from your poor experience/s here. Chris, Your description of your experience is the exact opposite of my philosophy here. Please call/email me so that we can discuss. I had no idea that you felt this way. Mirg? I'm truly at a loss. I am used to very good reviews of my store and this thread is practically blasting the crap out of me. ...crush to the ego to say the least. Please email me with some specifics as to the origin of you calling me/my staff complete a-holes. I am speachless that you feel this way. I realize that you can't please everybody, but holy cow! :-( I'm known for being a loopy goof ball, not an a-hole. Rachael, I pre-measured you for your bike... therefore, all that was left was the minor tweaking once the frame was built up. If we would have started the process from scratch without taking your measurements, then the process would have taken considerably longer. All, In short, fittings can be easy; they can also be a total pain in the butt. Sometimes, I fit beginners and sometimes I fit pros. They all get the same fundamentally sound fit. It is the same system I used when I fit professional cycling teams and professional triathletes in the wind tunnel. There are some great fitting systems out there. The ugly truth is if you go to one certified fitter and then take your bike to another certified fitter, the results can and will vary based on the OPINION of the fitter at hand. You can get a great haircut and another hair dresser can think you were butchered. There are some fundamental rules that take place and honestly, the rest is up to interpretation. I stand behind my fits to the point of FULL refund of the bike if the customer is not satisfied. I am extremely loopy; I may even need medication for what people label me as having ADHD or something like that ;-). I have a ton of friends and am over the top friendly. John was part of my family here so it hurts to hear some of the things that were said. But, I do know that I absolutely need to work on my concentration on one person at a time. Criticism, although sometimes painful to hear, is the pathway to personal growth and improvement. Thank you for posting your displeasure, but please in the future, pull me (or whomever you have a problem with) aside and let them know. I am so used to hearing good reviews about my store, this was truly a kick in the teeth. I closed a great day with reading this and having my feelings blown away. C'est la vie! I must learn from this, assess, and improve. I do hope that those of you that have had a bad experience with me or my staff would please stop by and let me shake your hand and apologize in person. I give you my word that I will grow and improve from my take aways involving this thread. Good luck and keep the rubber side down. Kevin W |

I'm not complaining. The bike is amazing and fits well, I was expecting a MUCH longer fit, but again, it is very comfortable and I can't complain. I've gone to a few tri stores that seem too " above" me and look past me because I am young and not that good, I don't feel that way at Tribe. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have bought 2 bikes from Kevin and have never had a problem. (And they were not real high end bikes). My fits only took a few minutes and the fits feel great. When I need repairs, they always get things done fast. The one think I really like about Levin is that he does not try to sell you something you do not need. I went in there one time ready to buy some new pedals, Kevin looked at them, said they were fine and he could replace a plate on them for a few bucks. He could have easily made a sale, but he didn't. I know for a fact that done this on many occasions. Just my 2 cents.

Kevin, I appreciate your willingness to accept criticism in an effort improve the operations of your store. However, my comments were less then constructive and for that I am sorry. I'm not just saying that because I know you've seen and read the thread. Even though I have not had pleasant experiences with Tribe, I admit that my comments were harsh and unfair. Rather then continuing to detail my grievances in an open form (which is something I shouldn't have done in the first place), I'll send you an email during the week to fill you in on the specifics.
