In!  Now looking for an Inn.  Lodging is a touch pricey for 1 night...most places requiring 2 nights in the area.

for those who need a 1 night hotel the best and only places to stay are in the Santa Rosa area.  I contacted 4 local hotels/ inns and they are at minimum 2 night stays.

I found Extended Stay Santa Rosa North via hotels.com  $107 for Sat night and they have kitchenettes in the rooms.

If you're going w/ family/friends who are not racing and don't mind camping, may I suggest Riverbend Resort. It's far from being a "resort"; however, it was close enough to bike to the start, there was a playground for the kids, and it was right on the bike route for the family to watch.  (and the showers were free   )

This was my first half and LOVED it!  Hope to go back and do it again in a few years.

HAVE FUN!!!

I'm in, along with my wife.

We're renting a house not far from the start.  Found the place on VRBO.

This will be my 3rd HIM and my wife's first.

This is going to be my first HIM. Just started training last year and did a couple of sprints which were fun so thought I should see what this is like. The triclub I joined has quite a few people going down doing it as well, including some on the wait list. Hope they all get to go. Anyway good luck training everyone.

Contact Event Director, Andy Oros, for bike and race gear shipping coupons for Beginner Triathlete members @ (916) 778-7374.

www.racedaytransport.com

Some of the great Raceday Transport Options:

Fully Assembled Bike Transport—No disassembly required.  We prep and pad all delicate bike components and each bike is transported in its own padded bike rack.  We deliver your bike “Ready to Ride.”

Bike and Race Gear Transition Area Pick-Up—This is an option where we go in and collect the athlete’s bike and race gear from the transition area during the event.  It allows the athlete to finish their race and enjoy the event without the hassle of worrying about their equipment. Very popular.

Box and Ship to one of our Regional Locations—This is an option for athletes to box and ship their bikes to one of our Regional Locations (closest to the event).  We unbox and assemble your bike and then transport it fully assembled to the event.  After the event, we disassemble and pack your bike and then ship it off to your home.  This option does not include UPS or FedEx shipping charges.

Airport Shuttle Service For Box and Ship Customers—This is an option for athletes that cannot utilize our fully-assembled transport service but still provides an option to taxi their bike boxes from the host airport to their event.  Saves on extra-large rental cars or expensive taxis.  Reservations are required for this service.

VIP Program--Have friends or family joining you for this event?  Your team might be interested in our VIP program where we have athlete’s friends and family assist us in the booth.  After the event, we provide them with a $100 transport gift certificate.  All transport gift certificates are fully transferable so they can pass them on to anyone they like.  It’s a great way for friends and family to plug-in to the event and at the same time earn future transport coupons for themselves or others.  If interested, contact our Events Director, Andy Oros @ [email protected] for more details.

LaughingRaceday Loyalty Program
When you purchase two or more Raceday Transport services in a 12-month period, you will receive an additional $20 discount that can be combined with your Tri-Group savings, plus, space preference on a future race.

What number on the waiting list are you for Vineman?  Don't stress about the waiting list if your under <400.  I was 412 and made it into the race. Good luck--I  am 174 on the waiting list and am planning on making it into the race.

I stayed at the West Sonoma Inn last year when I did this race.  Easy walk/ride to the start on race morning, and prices in Guerneville are much better than other areas.  Not a huge variety of places to eat closer by, but what is there is nice.  Plus we ate when we went to the expo.  Oh, and the inn had a very nice wine tasting the evening after the race.

this will be my first 70.3. I have a sprint, a marathon, and two olympics under my belt so far. I'm looking forward to kicking my own in my training. I'll be staying at the rental my family got for that weekend. Good luck to everyone with your training!

getting closer..

all the Vineman 70.3 athletes must be too busy training to go on this Forum!
I rode the course Memorial Day weekend and am glad to say it is much easier than what I train on at home. Training has been going really well but since it will be my first 70.3 I can't help but be a little nervous. I'm excited to race, especially after seeing how beautiful the bike and run course are. The roads are absolute crap! People had mentioned the crappy roads but I thought they couldn't be too bad. They are absolutely horrible! Parts of it feel like cobblestone! After riding the course, my arms were more sore than my legs from holding on so tight. Looking forward to race day since it will be a closed course and we can ride where cars usually go, since the shoulder is crappier than the middle of the roads for the most part.

The run is really beautiful and has rolling hills but nothing too bad. My age group doesn't start until like 8:30 so it will be getting hot when it's time for the run!! Good thing it starts off in the shade. Now that I know any elevation gains won't be my biggest concern, I've been making a point to heat train so the higher temps won't shock my body.

I've been tri training a little less than 3 years now and this is by far the hardest thing i've gone through, but still fun! Finishing Vineman will be such a big accomplishment for me, but so much of what is important happens on a daily basis. I've been having mini victories every week since I am going longer than I ever have.

How is everyones training going? Feeling ready or behind? Who else is doing this as their first 70.3?!

Anyone have a suggestion on the best way to get from the San Fran airport to Guerneville area?  There are 2 of us flying in with bikes and didn't think we'd need a car for the week.  Shuttle services?  Don't think public transportation will work with the bikes.  Thanks in advance

I'm thinking you will need a car.  Guerneville is close to 90 miles away from SFO, so no public transportation between the two places that I am aware of.  Also, with the two transitions, you will need to get to Windsor on Saturday for both the mandatory athlete meeting and the show drop-off.  You will also need a way to get you bikes back from Windsor to wherever you are staying (shuttle will take you back to the start, but you cannot bring a bike on the shuttle).

Yes you will definetly need to rent a car. They are pretty cheap at the airport. There is public transportation to Santa Rosa but not guernville.

According to this thread the temperature was 71deg on the 28th.

This accuweather extended forecast has me worried! I could see the water warming up quite a bit between now and race day.

Almost time to taper.  Stay healthy everyone!

Thanks for the water temp info....hmm see what you mean regarding the weather forecast. Perhaps the water is the least of our concern ---running in 90+ degrees is tough. oh well - its the same for everyone.

Have fun

i don't think we should worry about any forecasts until july 9th or so; weather always changes.  but no matter what we all deal with the same thing.

50% confident and ready/excited

50% scared shitless

a first for a new distance is always a little scary.

I got #91 and start in the second wave. Anyone who has done this race before, did you notice the altered run course?

I'm a little worried about the potential heat on the run, too. Since I have a gym membership, I've been spending some time in the sauna and doing all my runs in the hottest part of the day, but since I'm near the coast. 'hot' is closer to 80 than 90.

Guess it just means that my target of a 9 minute mile (don't laugh, it's fast for me) won't happen and I'll run closer to the mid 10s if it's that hot.

I also suspect I'm the only one registered who would rather swim without a wetsuit, so with my luck the water will cool off before next weekend.
