Stolen Race Bib -- by a POSER!!!

The dude was probably running bandit and figured he wouldn't get pulled from the field with his found #.

also, why anyone would want to bandit a marathon is beyond me.... that seems like such a waste, unless it's a training run for an ultra

He was probably just trying to return the bib to its rightful owner and found that wearing it was the easiest way to carry it.

I can't tell if her name is on it, but is the red coloring a special indicator for a woman competitor?  If so, that would be hilarious!

Sadly, as a student in Boston I used to know a lot of people who would bandit the marathon.  As far as they were concerned, they'd done the Boston marathon.  

 They did it just because running the marathon was the thing to do, and a lot of people just didn't know any better.  Back then I didn't know better either.  You could either BQ or raise money for charity to run with a bib (both of which seemed nearly impossible), or "bandit" to run without -- that's just the way it was.  The disadvantage was that you didn't get an official time, that was it.

And most bandits DO drink the water and Gatorade without a second thought -- another unfortunate reality that RD's of big races have to consider.

Not an innovator, just an everyday small-time thief covering his tracks.

Something does not make sense:

If he ripped off her bib, all this would get him is entry to the Elite Corral at the start.

A bandit would not have a chip an so would not be registering times with the chip timing system.  If he was a registered participant who just swapped bibs, he would have been registering times under his own chip#, and not hers.

I wonder where the times came from...

Still and all, what he did definitely does suck. This does of course affect her because the results will be posted on Results Aggregators (Like MarathonGuide and Althlinks)

The Results only show times through the 20k mark where you friend dropped out.

It is only the Race Photos that show this clown posing as your friend. (That makes much more sense)

The times came from Sophia as she was wearing the chip and the other #288 bib.

This is hilarious. There are actually several pictures of that guy on the official photo website.

In regards to the red bib numbers, they were given to the top 100 times submitted.  They got entry into a special tent before the race and access to porta-potties with no lines.   Each of them got two bib numbers. 

Also, the red bib numbers got you infront of corral "A" and behind the elites.  The elites had orange bib numbers btw.

I think it's awesome that this is how he chose to bandit (FTR, I disagree completely with banditing), short of not having a number, how muh clearer could the guy have been advertising "I am a bandit."  I mean, not to judge a book by the cover, and maybe the pic is misleading, but look at the guy.  He ain't no "top 100" racer
