Subject: Ads now show for Silver members?
Just noticed ads are showing in the forums for me, where they had not previously since I became a Silver level member. Is this new, or just a glitch. Not liking it at all if this is intentional.

Thanks!

Mike

It is new, though for several years in the membership details it was only mentioned that the training logs will be add-free for bronze plus - even though I hadn't banners in the forums in the right of the forums, though they had been at the top for awhile now.

With the advent of mobile, the site is more expensive to run and develop - essentially running and developing two different sites.  My costs have been more and more and we have been doing  a lot of work on the mobile site lately to have a big release.

It's just the evolution.  I think I have done a good compromise - I kept the forums full-width by inserting banners in the posts every X posts.  Before they just took up a giant right sidebar that wasted a lot of space and looked bad.

I do understand though...but the cost of the internet goes up every year from a developers point of view.  Even farming app development out to India...that is even expensive - and apps are wholly different than the mobile site.  One has to do so much more nowadays to stay in the running.  BT has always been far less advertisers dominated as compared to other sites in it's evolution and I feel this is still the case...we are just catching up to how people have been putting banners up for years.

We'll see how it goes.  I run a lot of numbers...if this doesn't amount to much extra impressions, I may turn it back off.

  1. One of the reasons that we pay is to make the ads go away.  Putting ads in new places does not make me happy and I doubt it makes other members happy.
  2. If the ads are to fund mobile, put the ads on mobile or charge for mobile.
  3. Already a lot of old timers have left with the redesign.  Putting ads in the forums is likely to make the problem worse.

As the fog cleared, the buoy that I first saw earlier in the morning was just the first marker in a very long line of buoys that stretched across the lake like a runway for a 747 jetliner.

Yesterday I was a little sore, and today, whenever I bend over to pick something up, standing up again hurts badly. Have I done some sort of permanent damage? What can I do to rehab this area?

I don't really strength train (because I never have and don't really know much about it) and feel like my lack of upper body strength is the reason why I'm not getting faster.
