Subject: Wetsuit Buoyancy Advice? Hi all,
I've completed 5 x Sprint Triathlons now and my best time was 1:23 but I'm still a relative newcomer.
Swim is probably my strongest discipline, last time around I did the 750m in 13:30.
I still find wetsuit buoyancy really confusing though, at least in terms of what my needs are. Up until now I have used an Aqua Sphere Challenger which is a bog standard-ish suit I think.
If this helps, I don't know if this is unusual, but I only actually kick for about a third of the swim. I don't feel it speeds me up that much and I like the fact that I still have reasonably fresh legs when I come out of the water.
Two that I'm looking at are the Huub Aerious 3:5 and the Archimedes 4:4 but I don't know what might be better suited.
So:
- I'm a reasonably strong swimmer which puts me towards the 4:4 I believe?
- But at the same time I think I'm bottom heavy, I have quite a thin torso but I have quite meaty legs for a tall 6'3 guy, I don't have spindly legs.
- And I don't kick all that much.
I have no idea whether my legs feel sinky or not when I swim.
Any suggestions that might help me make a decision?
The other thing I'm confused about is that I believe the Archimedes is reasonably top-end, but I thought top end suits tended to be thinner than 4mm. Won't I lose all my arm flexibility in a suit that thick?
