Subject: RE: first IM in Europe. Which one to choose? Will be in Roth this year too, Nice has just gone and was very hot, its a tough race due to the weather but the hills can be as brutal as Lanzarote without the wind.
Have done all the Euro races now so will be gonig to Wisconsin in Sept to start to compete over the pond but if you have any questions about Euro races give me a shout.
As for Embrunman v's Norseman, I have done Norseman and its tough, possibly 2 hours over a normal time but very dependant on the weather, the year I did it they moved the swim course down the fyord as it was only around 12 degs at the original swim area due to the snow run off from the hills. THe following year the water was more like 20 degs !
Not done Embrunman but reading reports its tough due to the heat and the climbing involved in the bike leg, plus by all accounts you do 180 km on the bike and THEN you are sent off to the Col d'Izoard for the last 7km so its over distance ! The run isn't flat either.
As for your original question Tzunami, if you wanted a beautiful race in Europe with M-dot status go for either Austria or Switzerland if its your first. Although tthe Nice bike course is ne of the most beautiful you will ever do, there are still issues with Nice, running out of water on the bike course is a defo no-no in my book and the run section is dangerous due to the proximity of slower riders coming in next to runners already on the course and the general public crossing roads that are not well manned. Plus as a first IM, its a tough one against the others.
