my gf is doing her 2nd sprint on Aug. 2nd.  it will be here first race w/an OWS.  there is also an OLY that day.

i would like to do the OLY, (i have done 3 oly's before), but she did express that she wanted me to be able to take pictures of her. .
she says it isn't a big deal if i do one of the races.
she has came and taken pictures of me atleast 4-5 races (she didn't want to race at those)

so, do i:
do the sprint?
do the OLY?
not race and take pictures?

I'd do the sprint.  You can take "before" pictures, and then you can take pictures of her run and finish.  You know...if you beat her.

Just take pics. It's her first race with an OWS. Make the day about her.

Life gets very treacherous when a female of the species uses phrases like "I'd like you to" and "it's no big deal if you don't" together.  If you're a risk-taker, race whichever event you choose.  You get a race and may only spend a few days in Fido's doghouse.  If you're risk averse, you'll accept that there is exactly one true statement above.  Granted, you miss the race, but you do get pizza

Now the third option is to find someone who is available and has a knack for taking great action pictures and have them take the pictures while you race.  Note:  This only works if what she really wants are photographic memories of the race, not your undivided attention while she is racing.

Your gf asked you to support and take pictures of her during her race.
Your thoughts are that you could race too.

Just think about it from that perspective and ask yourself what the right decision is?

(there is already a lack of pizza thread.  You might become a contributor to the thread)

ok, i am glad others recognize phrases like ' i am fine with whatever you chose' are a perfect indicator that that is not true.

not to hijack my own thread - <hijack> but why do women make it complicated like that? why not just say ' i would rather have you not do the race and take pictures' (i.e. the truth), than some convoluted trickery that is bound to get all of us in trouble?  i do not understand!  </hijack>

Because she would rather YOU reach that decision on your own.

Women often need validation in situations.  You did the opposite in the situation.  You put YOU first.  So she backed down from her position to try to appease you (and avoid conflict).

When your girlfriend says "it doesn't matter" does she really mean "it doesn't matter" or does she mean "it matters and you better figure that out."

A first race is something that will never happen again.  Having friends, family and loved ones cheering you on at your first race is something pretty cool.  If it's just another race to you, it's her first race.  Be the "prince" and the "hero" and don't race and just take pictures and make the day about her first race.

There will be a bunch of more Olys.  There will only be one time she does her first OWS.

This is really kind of a no-brainer.

Yeppers - some guys are known to throw fits and exclaim that you can't tell them what to do.

Go cheer her on and take those pictures. Sounds to me like she wants you to support her in her race the way she has for you on numerous occassions.

OWS is crazy and the first is an experience all on its own.   She needs to know you're around for her.  Plus, it can be super fun to spectate at a race!

Bring a disposable water proof camera and race with her, taking pictures all the way.  And then post them on the Pace Booty thread.

I'm surprised not being there to take her pictures is an option.  I suppose if you're looking for a way to get out of this relationship, then don't go.  But don't be surprised if she doesn't call to tell you how she did.  Oh... and if you do decide to take the pics, as was said earlier... make sure you post them in the pace booty thread.

And given enough trial and error, we usually figure it out.

When she says, "it isn't a big deal", does that mean, "read between the lines- don't race and take pictures- I'm testing your love for me"... or does it really MEAN "it isn't a big deal"?

Based on which one of those you pick, you have your answer.

Because I can tell you, if I don't my boyfriend that he could race and it wasn't a big deal... that's what it would MEAN. He could race. If I wanted him to really take pictures, I would tell him to take pictures and not race. I say what I mean.

i think it really isn't too big of a deal - but i am going to not race.  i have a HIM 2 weeks after that anyways. . and i just raced last weekend.  i don't think i've ever attended a race and not raced.  it will be fun to watch her though and cheer her on.

and KSH - yes, he must be lucky.  my gf is pretty straightforward normally, and when she isn't, i can usually figure it out quickly, as we have been together almost 4 years. .

Get on one knee at the finish line. Step up.

These proposals always surprise me.  I would think most women would prefer to not look like they just ran a triathlon in the subsequent pictures.

Make this one all about her - there will be other races you can do together.  So just wear you most peacocky race shirt/hat/etc and smile and shake the cowbell and take pictures and tell her how great she did.
