Subject: My Birkenstocks smell

None of my other shoes smell, none of my flip flops or other sandals.

Why do these? Does anyone else's smell? I'm wondering if its the kind of footbed. Or maybe I just wear them too much. 3 years old and they don't look old! I don't want new ones.

But seriously...

My previous pair of Birks lasted for over 10 years. I've thrown 'em in the washing machine (but not the dryer), and they do just fine.

you damn dirty hippie...

Yeah, you d.d. hippie.  I see we have our "Comet's bored at work" thread for the afternoon.

It's either a Republican plot to make liberals (only THEY wear Birks) smell bad or it's a sneaky move by the manufacturer to make you have to buy new ones after three years.  Like when your car head gasket blows 3 weeks after your warranty expires.

Jim, what do you do when the soles wear down, mine are starting to in the heels. How much to resole them?

Yes, I'm a damn dirty hippie. I don't like shoes. I like Birkenstocks or flip flops (or no shoes at home or the beach). I don't like clothes either but thats another issue.

I'm assuming I can wear Birkenstocks at my new job. I'm hoping shorts too!

I've heard from more than one person that Crocs smell too, and sooner. My Birkenstocks didn't start smelling until recently.

Yes, the classic "comets bored threads" are now back.

My soles never wore down that much where I had to worry about it. They did separate from the cork on occasion, but Elmer's glue fixes that just fine. Also, putting a nice layer of glue on the exposed cork once in a while protects it well.

I don't know - we haven't had ours long enough (the kids Crocs are SO cute!) I just assume they'll be a lot easier to clean if they get smelly. Hopefully we can just wear them to the beach and they'll smell good again.

I've given this a lot of thought.  I've weighed all sides of the discussion.  I've consulted with friends I know who are experts on the subject.  I've searched the forums for related discussions.   After processing everything I could come up with on the subject I've come to following inescapable logical conclusion.

Your Birkenstocks smell because you have smelly feet.

I'm exhausted from all of this thinking, I'm going to nap.

Ahem. My feet never stink, nor do my shoes - and my Crocs ain't gonna stink, neither. I smell like freshly baked sugar cookies and lavender and vanilla and your first day at kindergarten  and freshly laundered linens and puppy's breath all rolled into one.

Didn't you have another stinky problem?
