The FEMA website has a pdf on how to make one with all the plans. I downloaded it, pretty interesting. When Dietrich Bonhoeffer was transfered with a few others at the of WWII for execution by the Nazis, the truck ran on a wood fuel. |

![]() I am disappointed in this season so far. I watched both eposides today and was not impressed. I thought the show went looking for more "on the fringe" people then actuall intelligent prepping. The 15 year old kid with the blades saying he is not afraid to kill. As a parent I really have to question what the hell his mother is teaching him. The girl living with her parents and having her own kid. What an awesome outfit to work in, blue tank top that is too small and some big white sunglasses. I need to check people of walmart to see if she is on there. Then the bug out drill with the husband that married the twin.....what happened to the kids during the drill? I don't know, maybe the rest of the season will be better Joe |

Sure, it's there time and money, they can spend it how they like.... but sitting around all day coming up with what if scenarios??? The one guy that was like 350 lbs... really, you are prepared to weather a storm? At least he mentioned working on himself at the end. Ya, a 15 year old... that's not normal. Sorry, it's not. He has issues. What I don't like is the common assumption that after three days, civilization will break down and it will be every man for himself and everyone will just be passing their time raping and killing everyone... sorry. I don't buy it. And I also don't like the loner me against the world mentality... sorry pal, you are going to loose that one. People will band up, stick together, strength in numbers, help each other. You can't just make it on your own. You will need help at some point. Edited by powerman 2012-11-15 1:36 AM |

I saw a bit of the show in a hotel over the weekend so I"m not sure which season it was. But it was a guy in california that seemed pretty smart. He was training others with him and said the same thing.. that a lone person isn't going to do well. You need to be in a decent sized group and train that group. I thought his main defense was interesting also. Instead of fortifying against an assualt, he had many hidden bunkers where they could stay, so it was retreat, wait a bit then come back to retake his land when their guard was down. |

Your exactly right, he should be on the Marine recruit watch list for the next Sergeant Major that will help defend this country in the future. |

Ya, we already know what defensible structures are, and a bunker is not one. There was one on the "bunker" show that they were going to weather an assault in the bunker... with a ventilation pipe on top of it... SO let's see my choices... fart in it, cut it off, smoke you out, tear gas, chemical weapons... cyanide.... ya, great plan, let's fall back to a place they can kill me. Even preppers themselves... how about forming prepper militias... that in the event of calamity you muster up and see where to go from there.... or hell, here is a novel idea... muster up and see what you can do for help. |

A. In the event of calamity, the preppers I know would help others, and I know a lot of them, even the ones that did not prep prior. I have in my preps extras to help others who didn't take the advantage before hand. Learning how to prep has actually brought me to helping emergency organizations, and providing education (free) at local libraries. There are a lot of so called preppers that are taking advantage of any type of doomsday events by jacking prices of mre's, medical gear, weapons, shelter reinforcements etc. Take a look at the events of Sandy and see how much prices in emergency gear has skyrocketed from vendors. Those are your real enemies taking advantage of people when they are down. B. You bring a good point of backing a survivalist into a bunker. Thus, if the survivalist was well prepared, they would have thought about this and would be able to see someone coming from miles away (even at night). And if said prepper were to know of your presence, hopefully their tactics of inline traps, guard dogs, sniper locations, electric wired fences, concealment shelters, and secondary pillboxes didn't stop someone, then with all pleasure, fart over the hole and see how loud that last fart sounded and smelled. ;-)

The bunker I was referring to was a particular individual that had a lot of stores. He was going through his plan of how defensible his home was... sniper positions, barricaded, fortified positions and so forth... but his retreat was his bunker... so if all that didn't work he was going to fall back to a hole in the ground with a ventilation pipe... that is not a defensible position. Obviously some sort of bug out shelter, hidden and remote, for you to wait something out, well that is different. And with most stuff, lines are being blurred here with "pepper". Any sort of disaster preparedness is a good idea. Can you make it a week until help comes from a hurricane, ice storm, volcano??? And most of this country has to deal with such emergencies... tornado alley, East coast and Gulf hurricanes, Earth quakes in California, Ice storms in the mid west and South. Epic blizzards in the North East... in Colorado... we have no such things... a few blizzards have shut down the city for 3 days, but I can still get around. There used to be "survivalists"... well in that respect, knowing how to "survive" in a number of situations is good sound knowledge. Knowing how to defend your self, live off the land, how to navigate not get lost... that stuff is cool. A "Doomsday Prepper", preparing for some sort of doomsday scenario... ya OK. Sorry, if some sort of "doomsday" scenario happens... well good luck. Yellowstone will blow again, and most America will be dead. The worst thing that can happen right now is a severe mass coronal ejection from the Sun... that has happened and will happen again. It will knock us back to the stone age. No power for years, no food production, no water. Half the planets population will die in a couple of months. The other half probably won't make it a year. Good luck preparing for that. But nuclear holocaust, small pox, global pandemic, end of days type stuff... what ever. Life is for living. When it's over, it's over. Edited by powerman 2012-11-15 2:28 PM |
