I will always cherish the Ohio River and the brown grit that came out of my bathing suit the next morning. Oh yea, and the contents of my stomach that I left in the river after swallowing a mouthful.

The time spent in 17 porta-johns will also be cherished. A porta-john in 97 degree heat is a bit like heaven!

The swim.

After months of swimming 25 yards and hitting the wall and turing around it was so nice to be able to just swim.  The water felt wonderful.

For me, getting in the water is the best part of an IM (with the finish line being a close second).  After months of training and pre-race anxiety, there is such a feeling of peace and relaxation and accomplishment when I finally hit the water.  The thought "I'm doing an ironman" dominated my thoughts as I swam.  Compared to biking and running, swimming is easy.  At the swim exit I said to myself "OK, the fun's over, time to go to work."

The other thing I'm looking forward to is the pre-race dinner and meeting about 75 BTers.  It was so cool this year that many of us wore bright yellow BT shirts so we could identify each other.  And someone had the great idea to put name tags on everyone with screen names so we could tell who was who.

Wearing my BT tri gear and the great support and cheers I got from people associated with BT!  I almost always train alone but in the IM race I felt like part of a big family.  BT rocks!!!!

There are 7 of us going that train together-when I did Placid I was solo, this time it will be a new experience to be there with a group. I look forward to that.

I'm sure they will be into their third beer when I come across the line, but they will be there.

Unless my new bike does the job

Most of us live in metro Detroit, and some of us even work together, so we get together for lunchtime swims at the YMCA, and we ride our bikes on a 40 mile park-like course called Hines Drive.

In the summer we swim in a local lake.

Todd, "tiger stripes" is out of IL but comes in for business once a month, so we train with him a couple of days each month.

We keep each other motivated.

The flat Coke during the marathon.  That was clutch.

I also met a bunch of really cool people out there on the course.  I'm looking forward to that again.

That is very cool. I bet there is not too much work talk throughout the day.

I'm looking forward to everything! The swim was really enjoyable - I didn't taste anything funky - and I didn't get sick. It was one of my favorite race swims.

I absolutely love the Louisville bike course. It's really fun and I've never ridden on any course more beautiful.

There are lots of spectators out on the run course and the finish line is unlike any experience I've ever had before. I was got extremely emotional the first time I ran by the finish line, only to turn around. I think I wasn't hydrated enough for tears to flow, but I was crying on the inside. It was magical! I didn't get emotional when I actually ran down the finish chute - I felt like I was in a time warp.

None of the food seemed appetizing at the end of the race. This time I'll know to have a cheeseburger and fries waiting

The walk back down to Waterfront park to get my gear. I had just enough for the 140.6, and had no reserves for 141.6 with the walk to the transition and back to the hotel.

LOL  Yeah, this sucks.  I had to make this death walk in 2007 but in 2008 I had family with me to retrieve my gear for me.  FYI - they had a shuttle this year to take you to the transition area....but it was one-way so you still get to walk back.
