Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I know a few of us are participating (non-racing?) in the MOWS event on Saturday. Many are biking afterward. Are we all signed up for the 2.4mile/wetsuit division? FYI: They are still looking for volunteers - so if any of you know some kayakers or have significant others looking for something to do that morning here's the info to volunteer:
We are still in need of a few volunteers on Saturday, August 21. We will be setting up the site starting at 6am, and could use two more people for that. At 7am, we will start checking in participants, and we could probably use about 4 more people for that. We'll also need someone to hand out t-shirts. All of them are pretty easy jobs, and only require a couple of hours. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Coming to town Thursday night. Ride 2 loops Friday followed by a run. Saturday, 2.4 mile with wetsuit. I like the idea if doing it with 500 in three waves prior to the mess that will be IM day. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm in for 2.4/wetsuit. I hadn't considered riding or anything afterward, but maybe I should follow the crowd. Sounds like a pretty good workout. |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sounds like a good turnout - so far 365 registered (cap is 500). I know we're all registered, but those with friends considering it, registration ends today at 5pm and there is no race-day registration. Looks to be perfect weather for Saturday and the water should stay cool (and clean, pending no storms the night before). While not a race event for me, I'm going to pick up my tempo a bit. Has a meeting place been designated before or after the swim for those riding? I'm only doing one loop of the course (15-16pace over the whole course, I'm not a speedster) and a bit extra since my long ride was last weekend. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have a 3 hour run to do this week. I am trying to see if I could do it tomorrow (Thursday), but I have a swim in the AM, and it is supposed to be over 90 degrees again. I am not sure if I want to run 3 hours tomorrow evening in that kind of heat. Friday is out with traveling to Madison. I could put the long run off until Sunday and either get up Sunday morning in Madison and do the run or drive home and do the run, though Sunday at home is supposed to be over 90 also. If I was to do it Sunday morning, does anyone want to join in? We would need to figure out a way to handle nutrition and hydration. For me 3 hours is probably going to be about 17-18 miles if I am not too beat up from Saturday. Thanks! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Im in the same boat as you Greg-usually my long ride is on Sunday AFTER my run but the OWS and ride Saturday changes things up a bit. Im off Friday so I may do it early before I drive up but am worried It'll take too much out of me for Saturdays monster day...?? Any thoughts?? |

Im off Friday so I may do it early before I drive up but am worried It'll take too much out of me for Saturdays monster day...?? Any thoughts?? That is my concern also about running on Friday. I guess its not any different than when we run on Saturday and ride on Sunday...with the exception of that swim thing Saturday morn! My plan has me doing a 1 hour ride on Friday, but at this point I think that last long run is more important. Anyone want to weigh in and help Steve and I out? Edited by Gregkl 2010-08-18 8:19 PM |

It will be 96 degree when I start, but I gotta do it. I do have to run 90 minutes Sunday morning before I leave town, so maybe I can hook up with a group then? |

Why don't you shorten your run and do it on Saturday after the ride. It will give you a really good understanding and feel of what it will be like on race day. Assuming my calf and shin can handle it (fighting calf pull and the beginning of compartment syndrome), the plan my coach has for me is:

For me 3 hours is probably going to be about 17-18 miles if I am not too beat up from Saturday. Thanks! Just following the thoughts on the running situation... for myself, I'm running an hour run on Friday, then doing the 2.4swim, then 5hr bike on Saturday, and a 3hr "run" on Sunday morning. My 2.5hr run last Sunday after a 112mi bike on Saturday was tough - I was bonking at mile 8, but a 5 minute rest, and calorie intake corrected it; I must have had a slight calorie deficit from the big day before. Mile 11 I got a huge bout of mental drainage, but a caffeinated gel helped that. My suggestion is to tough it out early Sunday morning making sure you do *nothing* after the swim/bike on Saturday (unless you want to run a bit). A route suggestion would be the Lake Monona 20K which has enough water stops at parks and is a nice run through mostly residential areas with lots of shade trees. Though there is a 3-4mi section which I haven't found water (but a kid's lemonade stand helped me out!). Some of the route has access to stores, a custard stand, and an ice cream shop, but plan on carrying any nutrition. Just continue on the loop for the extra miles and then turn around - you'll still be able to have access to water. Start at Olin Park (across the lake from Monona Terrace), or start at Monona Terrace. If you start at the Terrace and loop clockwise, your partial second loop will take you past more water stops. Seeing you're from IN, I wouldn't be looking forward to the drive back on Sunday after a 3hr run. You'll want to get out and stretch every hour or so. Good luck! |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This is my heaviest week of training at about 22 hours so my weekend will look like this - Friday: 90 minute run before driving up Saturday: 2.4 swim/112 bike/60 minute run/3 hour ride home (husband is driving us home) Sunday: 3 hour run Sunday is probably going to be hot, but nearly every one of my long runs over the past month have been in awful heat and humidity so what's one more right? Taper starts Monday so I'm going to suck it up and keep the order my plan intended. I'm not suffering from any injuries *knock on wood* and while I'll be tired from Saturday's workouts and getting home late, I do my long runs with my dad and he's been instructed to keep me going ![]() |
