Total Time = 57m 44s
Overall Rank = 9/53
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 2/11
Pre-race routine:

Got up 4:30 with Bob, loaded the van, little coffee, little Power Harvest Bar, threw kids into the van and stopped for Dunkin Donuts (bribe the kids since we had to get them up so early) and got to race site. Got packet and set up my transition area.
Event warmup:

Light jogging several times, stretching. Got one son set up to volunteer at water station while the other one slept in the van.
Run
  • 12m 49s
  • 1.75 miles
  • 07m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

Didn't have marker at one mile point so I didn't know how I was doing time-wise. Knew I wasn't quite up to speed yet though.
What would you do differently?:

Be more self-aware so I wouldn't have to depend on mile markers!
Transition 1
  • 00m 24s
Comments:

VERY psyched about transition time. Had a tough time getting shoes on while riding...fingers were numb and I couldn't feel for the velcro strap on the shoe. Had to look down to see it.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Don't want to wear gloves.
Bike
  • 30m 38s
  • 10.26 miles
  • 20.10 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

I REALLY need to work on corners. I'm still such a sissy! Other than that, I pushed it as hard as I could.
Transition 2
  • 00m 26s
Comments:

VERY excited about both transitions. Got in and out quick.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 13m 56s
  • 1.75 miles
  • 07m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

I was really tired by halfway into the run. I don't get the feeling of wanting to stop and walk too often, but I sure did then! Couldn't stop though, too many friends in the race would make fun of me!
What would you do differently?:

Really focus better the last few hundred meters. One woman passed me about that time and I just let her go instead of really reaching deep and fighting. She ended up first in my age group and I ended up second by 11 seconds.
Post race
Warm down:

Did a lot of walking. Trotted back onto the course to look for Bob. He looked great! Really looked good at the end of the race. (probably looked a lot better than I did!)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Endurance just isn't there yet.

Event comments:

Race was 15 minutes late, which doesn't really matter when it's warm out. but when the temps in the upper 40's and we're all in racing clothes, it's too cold to stand around that extra time without warmups on. Awards were also almost 1/2 hour late. Transition area not really set up well. They've done better in the past.

Great choice of places to stop...Dunkin Donuts rocks!  I can't believe how chilly it was!  Seems like anyone living in the FL state gets some choice weather.  You definitely crushed the whole race...great transitions...20 mph on the bike...great finish place....great finish in your age group.  Congratulations!!!
