Hi

I noticed during my HIM this weekend (my first on my Motobecane Nemesis tri bike) that the lack of carban seat and chainstays made riding over ruts, crevices and seams in the road very uncomfortable towards the end of the 56 mile ride. Last year, I did this exact same race on my roadie that has carbon in those areas and I don't fell the vibrations as much.

I was wondering (since buying a new bike is out of the question for now) would replacing my alum seatpost with a carbon fiber one help dampen the vibration and/or general discomfort?

I've replaced my seatpost (aluminium to carbon) and haven't noticed any difference.

You would more than likely not notice a difference.  More dramatic differences would be in tire choice and pressure and saddle choice ......... oh, and position.

Frame and parts material makes very little overall difference in feel, it is how the part is DESIGNED and implemented that makes the difference.

I switched from an aluminum seatpost to a carbon one, and I did notice a difference in comfort.  However, I think it's because the carbon seatpost allows me to tilt my saddle forward a tiny bit, where the aluminum one did not allow for any tilt adjustment.
