Subject: Swim Drill Techniques Question
Triathlete Magazine had a 12 week swim focus training program in its issues last year and I have a question hopefully some of the more seasoned swimmers can help me with. For the first 4 weeks it talks about some drills in which they list:

Floating with a light kick
Kick on side
Kick on side with one stroke
Kick on side with three strokes

My question when doing these drills are these one's I should be using fins for or just bare foot kicking?
Thanks.

If you want to work a little harder and you have good balance, do them without fins.

If your balance isn't so hot and/or you want to slack a little, use some fins.

Agreed with Leapdog.  Use fins until you have the balance needed to do the drills without them.  Once you have the balance lose the fins.

I addition to helping with balance, the fins will help your legs get into the right position (ankles flexed, strong hip action).  However, it's really hard to do kicking drills without fins once you are used to them.  Have someone critique your kick without fins.  If it's strong, and the balance is good, skip then entirely.

I'm not a great swimmer, but I've taken a lot of lessons and done many drills
