We lost a cultural icon recently...

Those tracing the arc of popular culture will make note of Ravi's passing...His style of music had direct influence on a number of the biggest names of the '60's, notably the Beatles. I see they're calling him the Godfather of Worldmusic now...

To the Western ear, sitar is an acquired taste, for sure; but anyone who remembers Ravi's show at the Monterey Pop Festival would have to agree the masses could be brought to near hysteria by his playing. He seems to have led a really interesting life...Among other things, I'd forgotten he was Norah Jones's dad..

When I heard about that I listened to The Beatles "Within You, Without You".  I could never appreciate that song as a youngun, now I love it.
