Subject: Newbie with a "newbie question" Hi all. I'm planning on my 1st tri this summer. I'm kinda getting excited and have been obsessing over this for the last few days. I consider myself to be in fairly good shape. I'm 43 and have a "runner's body" (5'9", 153# ). I have been a long time on/off distance runner. Luckily, I am a fairly strong swimmer but am sure I have minimal endurance with it. I'm not much of a biker but am looking forward to it. My initial thought was to start with a sprint, but I feel I'm in pretty good shape and am considering an Olympic in late summer/early fall.
Here's my 1st question (of what will undoubtedly be many ): when the training plans mention base times (40min run, 40min swim, 80min bike ), are those times meant individually or back-to-back-to-back in 1 session? Specifically, in my 40-40-80 example, would that be each one on its own (not in 1 session ) or all three of them in one session? Again, I'm sure I'll have many questions, but this seemed the most logical place to start. Thanks!
