Good morning!

Off for a 90 minute run and then about an hour after that a tough hike that climbs over 2,000 feet in 2 miles or so.  It's a good one!  Yesterday's adventure was just about perfect, lovely run and hike and sunshine!  Today is overcast but still decent temperature.

Karen...that is funny about the headlamp. I have a small head too--wearing the hat prevents the same thing for me!

Have a great day all!

Good morning all!

This morning my daughter and I went to a local 10k race to cheer for one of her school friends that was running. So we found a corner of the course that wasn't marked very well and figured we would lend a hand directing the runners towards the finish line. About a minute before the first runner passed, the volunteer in the bright vest got out of her car and started directing them. She seemed to appreciate that we were there with her though. Shortly after the daughter's friend passed, I headed towards the finish line to listen to the awards and gather up my daughter. This was the first time I ever "volunteered" on the course. I've been at the finish line , and I was at T1 in a tri before, but never out on the course.

This afternoon I am planning on a 25 mile bike ride. It's sunny and pretty calm albeit a bit chillier than it appears.

Have a great weekend,

Last LONG brick before Vietnam 70.3 in two weeks. 3:50 ride--I split it between outdoors in the industrial park (2:15) and the remaining 1:35 at home on the trainer. Crazy but I do this because I can't carry enough water on my bike to support a ride over about 2:30 in these conditions. (In the race I refill my aero bottle once or twice, but there's nowhere in the park to buy fluids and one can't drink the tap water.) Actually not too bad for end of April here--high 80's by end. (Some years it has been triple digits!)

Then 30 minutes run in the heat (low 90's by then). It went well. Fitness-wise I am getting there; run is not ideal but it is what it is. Now just need to stay healthy till the race and hope for no more family crises. I have a terrible record with recent races. This was last year:

Singapore Sprint Aquathlon: Sick with flu
Singapore Sprint: technically healthy, but dead legs on run
Cour de'Alene: Cramping on both bike and run; aggravated injury which then caused trouble for next nine months
Tri at the Grove: Run slowed by injury
70.3 Worlds: I hadn't run for six weeks due to injury but decided to do it anyway. Then I got food poisoning 48 hours before. But still did it.

And this year so far....

Challenge Wanaka: DNS as my dad passed away hours after my last long brick, two weeks before the race, and I had to go back to the US.

I am still having some issues with Morton's neuroma, but it seems to be under control. Hoping the race does not aggravate things too much and it will resolve once I'm not on my feet so much at work. At this point, just getting to the start line would be amazing, the finish even more so. Anything else would be icing on the cake!

4.2 mile run on the treadmill. Was hoping to get outside for a longer run but it was not to be.
