Silver_wlf - 2009-04-18 2:01 PM Check out http://www.trirudy.com/region/oe/ /> Sign up for the newsletter - group rides/open water, etc. (I used to be up there... I swam with the Nepean Masters.) Yeah...I am on trirudy as well ! Problem is that i have an unorthodox hours and train during the day in the middle of the week when normal people are working......most group stuff is done during the evenings and weekends...... |

Expert 1187 Ontario | Subject: RE: Ottawa?? I have the same problem.. as a shift worker it's hard to join groups that work out the same evening each week. I like to do most of my workouts during the daytime but not early in the morning so haven't joined the local tri club here as there workout hours are just not convenient for my life. I'm not in Ottawa but may be will ing to meet you half way (ie. Smith Falls area) for a long ride on a weekday morning. Not sure I'd be able to keep up with you though, we'd have to talk about that. |

Extreme Veteran 452 Ottawa, Ontario | Subject: RE: Ottawa?? I'm from Ottawa too - Old Ottawa South area. I unfortunately don't do much group training at all because of a very hectic work-family schedule (three kids - my wife and I are outnumbered!!). Most of my rides are very extended commutes, but I work right next to the Gatineau Park so much of my training ends up on the parkways. Runs are at lunch time, and I swim when I can at Brewer. Are you doing any local races this year? I am hoping to do the National Capital Olympic and the Canadian Half Iron. Was also planning on the Meech Lake Tri, but a family vacation has been booked for that weekend. Cheers, David |

That could work Where do you usually bike? I've been debating on either Rockcliffe Parkway or just doing loops up and down Frank Kenny... Not sure if I'm up for OWS in Meech yet. I have my wetsuit on order but I am VERY slow... 3:00min/100m right now |

I often do a 50k loop out Frank Kenny and then back up Devine road. Its great out there. What kind of schedule do you keep? You can PM me if you like! I am a slow swimmer too......do you ever swim in the pond? Its awesome! Edited by aquagirl 2009-04-24 1:28 PM |

Member 33 | Subject: RE: Ottawa?? I'm here! Live in Nepean and competing in my first Tri in 3 weeks (Sprint Distance Early Bird)! I also have a crazy, but extremely flexible, schedule which sees me training in the mornings and afternoons. Right now I also train alone because I cannot give up any evenings to group train. Would love to hook up sometime for a ride or even OWS (which I haven't done at all yet). Edited by rue_meridian 2009-04-24 1:52 PM |

I can't do any weekend rides until mid may though Weeknights are reserved for swim/run w/ the GF. I've only swam OW once, and that was for my try-a-tri. I usually swim at my work place pool. It's awesome having a near empty 25m pool at your disposal |

Have you done it before? Nah..I'm not doing the Early Bird. I LOVE to train but am actually not all that fond of racing, weird I know! I also am not that fond of short haul stuff, I would rather go long. To that end I am training for a half iron , Timberman in New Hampshire at the end of August. I see that you are doing the Riverkeeper as well. I did an Oly there last summer. Meech Lake is the nicest race in the Ottawa area IMHO. I might do that one if i am not working that weekend. Member 33 | Subject: RE: Ottawa?? I'm the opposite. I don't mind training but I love the competetion. It's what keeps me going. I've heard a lot of good things about Meech lake. I'm thinking of dropping the Riverkeeper because I don't have the $$$ to purchase a wetsuit (maybe next year). Doing short stuff this year but looking to increase distances next year...we'll see. How long have you been doing Tri's? |

It was a little chilly but very doable. Why don't you just rent one from Peccos? This will be my third season doing tris........looking forward to the longer stuff. |

If you look back at the photos from the previous races (zoomphoto.com), you can see that there are many people who didn't wear a wetsuit. I'm sure they all survived alright That being said, I ordered a vortex 3 john from xterrawetsuits.com . It's on sale for $99. I plan on doing the Riverkeeper Sprint myself. It'll be my 2nd tri, 1st sprint distance. |

New user 1 | Subject: RE: Ottawa?? Downtown...I WAS riding eastern parkway until it closed this week. Then I found out my pool closes (Canadian Police College) indefinitely... So I'm swimming at Mooneys Bay (across the swim area - 200+ meters each way...!); Meechers are too fast and too competitive for me. Couple of Somersault sprints down so far this year - Olympic at the 'National Capital' and then Timberman in August... I really need to get to the Gats a few more times.....! M |
