First of all, it is extremely difficult to say who the "best" player is in college football. What drives me CRAZY is some of the reasons these so called experts give as to why they voted for Manziel. It doesn't matter that this was A&M's first year in the SEC. It doesn't matter that he beat a very good (not great) Alabama team @ Alabama on national TV. It doesn't matter that he was given the nickname of Johnny Football. It doesn't matter that he is a freshman. What does matter is he went 1-2 against any competition; He had 172 yards passing against Florida and lost. He had a passing % of 52% of against LSU with 3 interceptions and lost. Other than Alabama, who was his signature win? Arkansas? Mississippi State?

So what you're saying is that you agree with the decision...

I tend to agree with you, but it's such a subjective process it's really nothing more than a popularity contest.

Wow, these grapes are sour...

I didn't think Johnny Football would win. Depending on what happens in the NC, if ND wins, I would say Te'o deserved the Heisman. But in fact, he's not even the best LB in college football.

Johnny Football is definitely exciting and he did lead his team to beat the team favored to win the NC this year. Saying "it doesn't matter" that he beat Bama is just crazy. That's all that mattered.

No sour grapes here. Sounds like you and many of the voters looked at 8% of Manziel's resume. He played 3 teams that meant anything and went 1-2 with crappy games in the two loses.

Us Ags are used to not getting any respect. That's fine.
We got the Heisman this year.
Earlier this year we got to hear 'horn fan and talking heads tell us we were going to get our rears handed to us this season.

He's on the ballot, but the nation's 2nd leader rusher (1757yds) with 20 TDs for an average team isn't invited? Went for 132yds & 3 TDs against his conference champion too. Where is the hype for Arizona's Ka'deem Carey. If you've seen him play (which is probably not a lot of people, hence the reason), he is n exciting player to watch when he gets the ball. Pains me to say it as a Sun Devil

Serious? Which ones are impressive?

They played five ranked teams. The rest were powderpuffs.

Of the ranked teams they played, they lost to LSU and Florida. They beat an over ranked Mississippi State team that lost four of its last five games. And they squeaked by a tiny Louisiana Tech.

Win over Alabama. Ok, we'll give you "impressive." What else you got?

Good player, had a great year, great stats. But I don't buy "impressive victories."

If Bama wins the NC, he deserves it because he did make several plays to hand them their only loss.

If ND wins, then Te'o deserved it because he's the leader of the team.

Colin Klein doesn't deserve it because he laid an egg on National TV against Baylor. Never mind that he dominated every other game. They were looking to him to dominate or lose the trophy.

Either Bama validates Johnny Football or it should've gone to Te'o.

The only other player mentioned has been Carey from Arizona. Personally I think manziel should have won. Like someone said the heisman is a popularity contest and I think the best player of the most popular won. however I am weird and give him extra points for being a redshirt freshman his play in his first year for me is more impressive the manti's in his fourth.

So Klein did exactly what Manziel did (lay an egg on national tv vs LSU) but he doesn't deserve it because his team is higher ranked and he has relatively similar stats (3400 yds 37 TD 7 int vs 4400 yds 43 td's 8 int)?

Klein has a lot less talent around him. Manziel has two possible top 10 picks in the draft on his team.

The Heisman has been a joke for awhile IMO. I don't really think it's a huge travesty that Manziel won, but I would've picked Klein. Even Geno Smith had similar numbers (4100 yds 42 TD 6 int) and he laid 2 eggs (same as Manziel). I think Manziel won it this year purely because A&M just moved to the SEC.

If you want the most impressive stats this year, it's got to be Jordan Lynch (4700 yds 43 TD's 5 INT's, led NIU to a BCS bowl, something Klein and him share that Manziel doesn't)

I think someone should come up with a computer program to pick the next Heisman winner. That would go along with the BCS selection and instant replay.

The Ags get a shot at the Sooners.
Our two losses were by less than one score each with our D getting out adjusted in the 2nd half of both losses.
The bowl season will be telling.

Difference between Klein's egg and Manziel's is that Manziel wants even on the radar when he laid his egg. Klein was in first place going into the Baylor game. Timing is everything.

I agree that the NIU guy Lynch looks like a very deserving guy.

Bear, you mentioned the Ags just played a bunch of powder puffs. With that logic, you can't use anyone's schedule as a benchmark for the Heisman.but the Ags strength of schedule was ranked as high as 1st right at the end of the season.Bottom line is 474 voters voted him first.

I said non-ranked opponents were powderpuffs, Can you argue that?

Strength of schedule is one thing, how you do against that schedule is something else. Hardest schedule in the country means little if you lose two games, when there's a group of teams with near-equal schedules that lose one or none.

At least one site ranks Notre Dame with the hardest SOS. As I said, they beat everyone they played.

Not arguing the worthiness of Manziel for the Heisman, just Iowaman's assertion of "impressive victories" and your implication that A&M is worthier than ND in the BCSCG.

What drives me nuts is when I hear voters like Sam Bradford and their criteria for why they voted as they did. There is rarely any logic involved. Manziel beat the best team in the country on their home field. A team that many hate for their greatness and their fans arrogance. That IMO is why Manziel won. He went 1-2 against any semblance of competition. He ranked 16th is passer rating, 16th in yards, 16th in completions and 25th in TD's this year in D1. Not that impressive in my book.
