I'm registered and hopeful but I'm wearing my wetsuit (cold water chicken!).

Maybe meet up before hand... I wouldn't want you standing around for hours waiting for me to finish ha ha

I'm doing this race as well.   Was really happy to see they brought it back.   They have changed the bike course to an out and back, which makes it even more fun.    It's challenging but fast.

If you hang around long enough after the race Kevin, we may finally get to meet.    Bike Riding

I haven't signed up for the race yet, but am planning on doing it.  I'm just focusing on the upcoming weekend for now!

Define "challenging" please...  This will be my first sprint and I'm still unable to get my bike out on the road - relying on my trainer eek!  Anything I should be prepared for?  (cute graphic btw - makes me want to try it and feel like a kid again ha ha)

Anne... woohoo... almost 2 years of chatting and living almost next door and we may finally meet. LOL

I'm not sure if it's THAT challenging... there is one little out and back section, I

You are absolutely right, Kevin - it is not THAT challenging.   I actually  had my best bike on the Belwood course.   The Guelph Olympic was on my mind.     PLEASE don't tell me that is not challenging.  Cool

Will definitely look for you before the race.

BTW, that was a good tip on the WD40 for rainy conditions.

Cool

I'm hoping to get worked up for the sprint but one day at a time.

I liked Belwood, it's an overlooked event.

The try-a-tri was my first ever race in 05 and I've done the sprint every year since...love the course.

I'm looking forward to this one. I never did it before because of the disproportinally long swim (swimming is one of my three weakest disciplines).

But I'm signed up for the Muskoka 70.3 so I figure I had better start upping my open water swim distances.  I hope the weather will be better and water cleaner than in was Guelph for the sprint.

I'm looking forward to a nice flat & fast bike course. See ya'll there.
Cheers

A day like today would be ideal.   Did a long bike ride this morning and it was perfect!

Just wondering if anyone knows what the water temperature is expected at Belwood.  I have no wetsuit, so just wear my spandex.  Anything above 65 degrees is perfect.  Ive raced at Niagara (lake Ontario), and Goderich (Lake Huron), and they have both been low to mid 60's.  Thanks

Could anyone give me an advice here please?
I'mm planning to do
Sprint Duathlon (Run 3km, Bike 30 km, Run 7km) but I do not have a road bike.
Is there a problem if I would race with a MB considering that I will be 10...20 Km slower than road bikers?

Thanks.

You will likely be slower but knowing that going in shouldn't stop you from doing the race and having a good time.  I rode my mountain bike in last summer's events although I was doing mini sprints but I can't imagine there being a restriction or rule.  I would suggest putting some thin slicks on it if you can which will help pick up the pace.  Good luck!

Whoever is doing Belwood.....are you wearing your wetsuit?  Sounds like water will be tolerable without it.  I juggle between wearing mine or not when the air is warm and water relatively warm.  I know it provides buoyancy but saving time in transition is always good too...nice not to have to worry about getting it off quick.  Day of race I will decide...most races I do wear it.

I'll be wearing my wetsuit.   It takes me 20 seconds to get it off in transition, being pretty much at my hips by that point.   There is no question you have better times with it (especially in longer races), although not so much for the really good swimmers who swim well under a 2'/100 meter pace.   They don't need the extra help.  Smile

I don't think we will have to worry about it being too cold.   The lakes seem to be above 70* now, especially the smaller ones.

Really looking forward to this race.

I agree with kimmax... get some hybrid road tires and you'll have a better ride. As for the speed issue... I wouldn't worry about it, because even some of the people on road bikes aren't riding that fast either. My recommendation is to stay as far left as possible and enjoy the ride. It's a really lovely area to ride in.

Enjoy the day and have fun!

Ahem!  I sure hope you aren't referring to me ha ha (he's right though!)

Absolutely!  I'm a huge chicken when it comes to being cold - especially swimming in it.   I'm not planning on being anywhere near the podium so the extra time in transition is of no concern to me.

Nice to see so many people participating!  Would be neat to put a face with the profile though not sure if that's really possible.  I'll be there early - the blond in the "mature" transition area with the hyper kid trying to stuff herself into her wetsuit aaaghhhh.
