Yea 3 hours into changing my flat still dont have it down.  I ruined 2 tubes on  the third now.  The youtube how to videos dont help and these stupid plastic things keep breaking.  Now I know why there 3 for 5 dollar.  Guess I take it as a learning experience cause im not gonna get anything else out of it... back to trying to change this tire.

/end rant

3 hours?  Wow.  It should take 5min,10 max.  Takes a couple times to get the tricks down...

Did you partially inflate the tube with your mouth?  Start mounting the tire where the valve is?  Hold the lever close to the rim/tire to avoid breakage.  Once I have one lever in, I insert another next to it and slide it along the rim to dislodge.  If I site on the floor, and lay the tire flat on my lap helps.

HMMM, takes me less than 5 minutes. You're obviously not doing something right. Wish I was there to help you. I know that's of no help, but hang in there once you learn you'll never forget-- it's like riding a bicyle. HA!

There's also a video on this website that might help.

I ALMOST HAD IT but there was buldge and I thought the tube was losing air so I had to take it apart AGAIN.  Now I pumped it up but its not losing air... but it does have a buldge... can i use this?

I have found that if you can muster the strength, not to use the tire irons when putting the tire back on the rim. I tend to pinch the tube when putting the tire back on the rim with the irons. If all else fails, go to the lbs and have them show you how to do it. You will probably have to pay for the tire change, but they can give you feedback. Good luck.

NO, that little bulge is no good. That means the wire bead (right term?) is not seated right. Dont try to inflate to full pressure until you get that corrected.

Not sure what the problem is.  But in general?  "bulges = no good"....  Could be a bad tire.

well I keep pinching the tire when attempting to put it on so maybe im causing the buldge to form.  Almost got it on again.... same tire though.. Maybe its defective.

I feel for you. First time I changed a flat I was at my wits end. Shouldn't have to reef that hard on the plastic levers. After 3 hours, I'd be at the LBS and ask to watch while they do it. Something in the technique seems to be eluding you.
Good luck.

right at the last and tightest part of the tire its so tight its really tough to get it onto the rim.  Do you guys use other tools to hold the tire in place?  I keep trying to put it on the rim and it keeps moving and moving and the last 4-6 inches its so hard to make progress to finish the fit onto the rim.

I've seen what you're referring to, and I wouldn't assume the tire's defective. I put a little air in the tube and it made seating the tire easier and the little bulge went away.

I'm a little uncomfortable with all the "little bulge" talk. Not a term that guys like to hear.

Try using a little bit of laundry soap on the wheel rim. Just a small drop should do it. It greases up the rim and the tire and makes the process of getting he tire back on much easier. Then, as a bonus take a wet rag and wash the wheel, then a dry rag and dry it.

Good luck.

exactly how much air are you putting in the tube before you put it on the rim and under the tire?

There is some of your problem.  Not sure what your are doing, but that should be easy.  I like to mount one side of the tire completely.  Then, blow the tube full with air from your MOUTH, that puts just enough to make it round and easy to handle.  NOT the pump.  Insert the valve through the hole, and push the tube into the tire.  Then press the other wall of the tire into the rim, working from the valve, to the other side of the rim.

beats me, it surely not due to your tire changing ability

Putting the tube on the rim should be the easiest part of the process.  Do you have the right size tube?

Or do you mean putting the tire on the rim?

Keep one side of tire on rim, inflate tube just enough so that it is not flat anymore, stick value in the value hole, work the tube into the tire/on the rim, start putting the tire back on the rim with your tire wrench.  put wheel back on bike, ride up to the store , buy 12 pack, drink one beer for every tube killed.  You deserve it.

How the heck does he get that wheel off and back on the bike so quick?  its like the RD doesn't have any tension on it at all?

WTF?  he doesn't have a value cover on or a value screw?  Do any of you guys/gals ride with out value covers/screws in racing?
