Subject: March "in like a lion, out like a lamb" Challenge

March comes in like a lion, and goes out like a lamb.

March is known for its wild and windy weather. Around here, the wind comes from the west. But I live in the East. So, I figured why not a WEST VERSUS EAST challenge this month?

If you live in the east, you're on the east team.
If you live in the west, you're on the west team.

The east/west of WHAT, you ask? I'm not going to tell you. You decide.
Not sure where you live? Well, toss a coin or something.

For this challenge, you can pick up to FOUR activities. (Minimum of 1, maximum of 4.)
You can bike, swim, run, walk, hike, strength train, dance, lose weight, climb stairs, or whatever else you want.

YOU define the activities. (Does 'swimming' include kick drills? Does 'running' include elliptical work?) YOU decide, and set your goals accordingly.

YOU set the goals. Only want to swim once? Only want to bike once? YOU decide, and set your goals accordingly. (But do try to challenge yourself!!!)

To participate:
Sign up on this Google spreadsheet:
http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=tLKxA4RnIZf7Am7tiL66YXg

Do not enter any goals yet! You'll be able to enter them directly on the team spreadsheets when I get them set up.
But DO state whether you're on the EAST team or the WEST team!

To access the spreadsheet, you will need to enter the following information:
email address: [email protected]
password: challengeforum

If you can't access the spreadsheet:
Scroll to the bottom, and look at the bottom right corner. If it says, "edit this page," click that link and enter the info above....
Or you can just reply to this message and tell me that you can't access the spreadsheet.

At the end of the month:
The winning team(s) may display a signature line: "We won the East/West challenge!"

Team spreadsheets will be put on Google Spreadsheets. Each team member will update his/her own info.

Each team will select a team captain. The team captain will inform me if a team member "disappears" and will also help team members who are unable to access the spreadsheet.

In the event of injury/illness, you may request to be dropped from the challenge, without penalty.
If you achieve 100% of your goal before the month is over, you may request to raise your goal.

At the end of the month, the winning team will be the team with the highest completion rate.

All training must be logged in your BT Training Log, by SATURDAY night, your time. If it’s not logged and reported, it didn’t happen! Please note: The week will end on Saturday. This will allow me to compile the results on Sunday.

Smack talking:
-- Smack talking is not mandatory, but may be done.
-- Smack talk is different from a personal attack. If you aren’t sure what the difference is, err on the side of caution and do not post the comment. (Keep in mind that real people are reading your comments!)
-- Smack talking is not to be taken personally. If you get upset about a post, ignore it and move on.
-- If you find a post offensive, and cannot simply ignore it: Walk away from the computer until you feel better, OR better yet, go for a good workout. A hard workout does wonders for your perspective.

The ultimate goal of this Challenge is to push yourself in an activity (or activities), to work out, to meet fellow BTers (virtually or otherwise), and to have some fun!

Hopefully, this Challenge will give you a little extra incentive and motivation to succeed at your goals – whatever they may be.

Welcome to the Challenge!

- Dee

I just signed up.  We need more people on the west team! I guess its easier to keep track of only THREE people but its still an awfully small team.

I chose East as my family all came for New York State (I'm the only Aussie in the family), but if it helps the balance feel free to put me in the West

I live in the east but grew up out west - can I be placed on the West Team?  This gives me a chance to talk smack to the East Coasters all day long to motivate my west coast brethren!

What is the line - Mississippi River?  Can you spell Mississippi backwards Dee????

Haha I made you say I PeePee

LOL -- I admit, I started to spell it backwards, and then I read your comment.

If we get lots more of one direction, I'll just break that group up into 2 teams.

I'm sure you're not alone too. But you only get to pick east or west.

Besides, Reykjavik is on the SOUTH side of Iceland. :P

But it looks like it's on the southWEST side, so *poof* - you're now on the West team.

Feel free to change the spreadsheet to East, if you'd prefer that.

Alright, I'm in!  HIM training starts on March 1st and I have a mission trip planned to Kenya mid-month.  I need to do my best and I need some motivation.  East of the Mississippi for me, so East it is.

Right now, the East team is a little larger than the West team. But it's not too bad: 18 on the East team, 11 on the West team. Plus, people will be joining for another few days. So let's see how the numbers work out.

Me me me pick me!

But I'm so confused. I'm the center of the world, so what can I possibly pick?

My heart's in the Western U.S.

I live in what's called the East (of the world).

My mom is a Westerner.

My dad is an Easterner.

I live on the south side of a south island, but on the east side of a peninsula.

Fine. I'll just be shallow and go by looks. WEST it is

Just finished my first half marathon in over 4 years, and I need to motivation to keep me moving into the Tri season.

Hmmm -- Live in Texas, that's about as middle as you get, but I guess since I'm WEST of the Mississippi, that puts me on the West team...
