I'm looking forward to this race as its always been one of my favorite locations. For me its always my season closer and the last chance to try and put together a 'fast' race. Anyone else here doing this race? I'm doing the sprint and the kids will do their KOS races.

In the sprint relay for this one....

Incidently, we are looking for a fast runner if anyone is interested in doing a quick 5km!  We have our swimmer (me) and our cyclist, just looking for that runner!  If anyone is interested, lemme know!

I am really hoping to do it, as it was my first sprint last year and I really liked the venue. DH is hoping to do the du there also. However, I don't want to sign up until after the Bulldog sprint next weekend (21st) as I've been battling an injury all summer and want to get through one event before committing to the next. How close do you think they are to selling out? I may be pushing it by waiting this long.

I'm doing the sprint.  My next and last tri of the season.  I think I'll go to volunteer on the Sunday as well.

Good luck next sunday Mark!  Make sure you enjoy every minute of it

Thanks... looks like we were cutting it close! My husband signed up for the du and I signed up for the sprint tonight. I had a bad race today and was considering calling it a season... thought I'd better get signed up before I backed out!

I'm heading up to Lakeside on the Saturday.  Debated doing the Oly this year, but I don't have the time to get the training in in order to feel "prepared".

During the sprint last year, didn't they say the water was in the 70s?  I call BS on that one, it was cold last year...

The temperature is announced at our races after we ACTUALLY take the temperature.

We do not make things up and announce fictitious numbers. First off that would be a serious health risk and secondly it would be dishonest and lack integrity.

Nuts to the relay!  I've signed up for the sprint itself.  Don't thnk I'll drive an hour to swim 750m...

Just checking out the results from last year....can someone explain to me a couple of things:

-The swim route isn't shown on any of the maps.  Is it a circular route? Same in / out of the water?  Whats the layout?

-The registered athletes vs. those who actually finish the race is staggering when I looked at the 2010 results.  349 entrants vs. 279 finishers for the sprint tri.....is this just people who "didn't show up" or is there a lot of disqualifications...or people who can't finish the event?  Wow....it looks like a huge number of people don't finish the event...

-Can anyone give a brief review of the course?  Road conditions, distance from water to T1, is there much for grade changes in the bike/run.   (Guelph Lake's T1 up the hill has scared me for life! Cool

Thanks!

All of the race specific information is on the website. Here is the link for the event page

http://www.msctriathlon.com/ms/events/showevent.cfm?showEventID=123

Then click on the specific event and you get all of the information you were looking for on this page

link http://www.msctriathlon.com/ms/events/showracedetail.cfm?raceID=437

There are swim course maps, race site layout etc. I am curious as to where you were looking that you could not see this information?

The outside temperature was unusually cold last year so there were a great number who decided not to race.

Looking for some help... I am not able to do Wasaga this year but I was planning on attempting the Olympic length.  Wondering if anyone can tell me about the hills on the bike route?  Do they compare to Bala??  Fairly new rider and a little leary of hills.  The hills at Bala were good for me so if anyone can give me an idea of how Lakeside compares to Bala I would really appreciate it.  Live too far away to check it out myself.

Thanks

Sue

I don't mind the cold water, just a little surprised at how cold it felt last year.  Maybe it had to do with the water temp and being outside rather than on a pool deck.  I can take a 68-70 there in a speedo without a problem there but last year Lakeside made my face all tingly.

I would suggest to you that had more to do with the colder than usual outside air temperature. I can guarantee it was not because we mislead you on the water temperature!

What other races have you done?  I'm not great on hills either, but most of the hills on the lakeside course aren't too horrible (I haven't done bala).  The long hill isn't that steep and flattens out a bit in the middle, there are a couple of shorter steeper hills.

Hi, I have done Wasaga, Bracebridge, and one in North Bay that you may not be familiar with as is not part of a circuit.  Bala was hilly but more rolling hills than long climbs.  Thanks for any help you can offer.

Sue

Sue,
I'd say the hills in Bala are worse...although it could just have been that day for me!

Sue,

If you've done Bracebridge, the hills there are WAY worse!

I think it's funny how I don't remember the water being cold last year. Wasaga on the other hand was freezing!

The water was cold and so was the air, its September in Ontario people.  Multisport runs an A1 event, which allows me to focus on the task and not who is operating it.  And the website is easy to use and very informative.  And the bonus, free chocolate milk at the end.  Its all I can think about during the race!

Bring on the cold!!!!

Guelph Lake II was so hot and humid.....it just sapped all the energy out of you during the run!  I think it was +32 with the humidex by 10 in the morning!  so I say bring on the cold at Lakeside! Crisp fresh cold air to get ya moving!

The sprint was hot and humid at Guelph Lake...I can only imagine what those in the Try a Tri went through in mid afternoon!  Holy Cow!

Here's hoping the road conditions are in better shape at Lakeside too!

I did the try-a-tri at Guelph II.  I actually didn't find it that bad - at least it didn't seem to affect my performance.  I normally don't like the heat, but I found that Guelph was much better than the Try-a-Tri at Niagara was.  I was cursing the sun in Niagara.
