One is a ruthless predator with metal melting acid for blood, fast as cheetah, who uses its victims to procreate.

The other, an ambidextrous, pimply teenager who projectile vomits.

You decide.

Sorry, my beautiful and delicate young niece, whom I affectionately call Damian, scares me more than the vomitous Ms. Blair.

Curious, Renee, was it because of the blasphemy of The Exorcist that set off this reaction, or just the inherent badassness of Alien? While Alien was more out-and-out scary, Exorcist had more staying power...that still freaks me out.

Grasshopper.. Alien has many things. Suspense. Mood. Seemingly invincible, murderous predator. Fantastic characters. Great dialogue - "In case you haven't been keeping up with current events, we're getting our asses kicked!". Tension. Great gross-out effects. Convincingly isolating sets. But mostly... it has Ripley. Ripley, the most courageous, kickass, no nonsense, realistic hero ever. Riiiiiiipley. Say it with me. Ripley.

Alien doesn't just have staying power, it has sequel power. Ever see an Exorcist sequel? That stuff shouldn't be played anywhere other than the Lifetime channel. Late at night. Like around 3am. After the Ronco infomercials.

I guess I shouldn't mention my X-Files days then...

I'll tape an X on my window when it's safe to discuss.

The exorcist scared the hell out of me.

Having said that, my one of my favourite movies is AlienS.

"Hey Vasquez, has anybody ever mistaken you for a man?"

"No, you?"

Haha. I remember that scene. Lots of snarky dialogue. Loved it. I believe Joss Whedon did some tinkering with the dialogue on the Aliens script.

Oops - Joss worked on the Alien Resurrection script. My bad.

What do you mean it was the other one?

I saw Aliens and loved it. It was so intense.

So then I had to see Alien and it was a completely different movie, but at least as good. Two great movies and I have to agree it was Ripley that made the movies great.

Sad to admit, but I haven't seen The Exorcist yet, so I can't compare.

Renee...I had forgotten all the good lines that were in Aliens. That guy was a riot. I used to know them all, but now all I can remember is him watching the handheld tracking device and the blobs of green coming closer, and then into the room.

"5 meters..."
"Holy sh#t, they're in the room..They're all around us..." In his whiney voice.

Now I'm gonna have to rent that movie and remind myself of all the GREAT lines.

"We're on an express elevator to Hell, goin' down!"

Gotta love Bill Paxton.

"Did I.Q.s just drop sharply while I was away?"

RIPLEY:    They retreated.  The guns stopped them.

[The moment stretches.  Everyone exhales slowly.]

HICKS:  Yeah.  But look...

[The digital counters for the two sentry guns read "0" and "10" respectively.  Less than a second's worth of firing.]

HICKS:  Next time they can walk right up and knock.

RIPLEY:  But they don't know that.  They're probably looking for other ways to get in.  That'll take them awhile.

HUDSON: Maybe we got 'em demoralized.

Compare to the blistering dialogue from The Exorcist...

BLAIR: I'm the devil! Be afraid! Ahhhhh spit... rrrrrrrrrrrrrraaallph.
