Subject: Do I just need a push?

Ok, so it's been about 10 months since I did a totally stupid/dorky/silly poll about my dating life (or lack thereof, more to the point). Here goes.

After my run Saturday morning, still wearing my running gear and Athlete's eau de parfum, I ran into an old flame at the grocery store. I turned onto the crowded dairy aisle and within my peripheral vision caught him looking at me. Did a double take and, yes, this guy is walking towards me with a smile on his face, staring right at me. Took me about 2 seconds to recognize him. We chatted for about 30 seconds, he gave me a warm, squeezy hug as he left. He's just as cute as he was 20 years ago, and just as warm and nice. Hmmmm...

Dilemma. I didn't check to see if he was wearing a ring, so I don't know if he's off the menu or not. I googled his name and easily found him - he is now the CEO of a local company. I could call him at the office and just say "It was so nice to see you. I google-stalked you and found your work number. I was wondering: ARE YOU MARRIED?" Nice, smooth, right?

Then the "Do not seek the treasure" part of me says I should just write it off to a happy chance encounter and leave it at that.

To call or not to call? That is the question.

Call.  What can it hurt?  Just say you wanted to catch up some more after the meeting and work in the questions.  Easy pleazy lemon squeezy.  If it doesn't work out you probably won't see him for another 20 years!

stalk out the Publix and wait for him again.

did the google turn up anything else, like races?  when I google myself, that's what I get.

search the property appraisers office and see if he co-owns any property. ding!

Excellent idea, Christine!

I just found his email addy, too (work). I could be a total wuss and just email him to spare myself the crushing humiliation of potentially chasing a  married man. It's bad enough I'm chasing at all!

Oh Lordy Lordy isn't there some slightly smoother way to figure out if he's married or not???

Yikes. And if he weren't, dontcha think he's have time to follow up with YOU if he wanted to? The grocery store chat? or what happens when you google your OWN dang name?

Sorry. I can't answer the poll either way. Sounds like a great moment in the dairy aisle there, but as a 35-and-single I am *SO* not qualified to answer this... Aaargh.

Eeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!

Ok, that came to a screeching halt. Indeed, he does co-own property with a woman bearing his last name.

Thanks for the stalking tip, Christine.

It's not being a wuss Renee.  E-mail is perfect.  Just say it was great to see you - what has been going on in your life?  If you find out he is married with 18 kids just say - it sounds like you have a fantastic family, blah, blah, congratulations, blah, blah see you in 20.  Come on, don't do it.

Edit for newly discovered spousal obligation.

I'm glad I ran into him. Reminds me that I used to date really nice guys with no effort at all. I compare him to the guy I've been waiting to contact me and realize he can't hold a candle to my dairy-aisle flame. He's so not the man Alan was 20 years ago and likely is today.

It's good to have these reminders.

Maybe it's his spinster sister who co-owns their land.  Did he have an unattractive sister and a rich land baron uncle???  Think Renee - think!!

Wow. I'd never think to do that kind of research. I would have just called his secretary and asked about "Mrs. so and so"

Yes, I love this thread.. best parts so far  "Easy pleazy lemon squeezy" and "google-stalking".  Too bad on the whole wife front, but at least we have all learned new ways to answer our questions without making ourselves too vulnerable to embarassement... and he never needs to know.  Unless of course he is a fellow BTer..

How about email......

I might be late on my post here, but I just wanted to alert you to the possibility that reaching him at work may be a bit awkward/difficult. If he is the CEO, then he probably doesn't answer his own phone or check his email (unless it's a super small company). If you get the secretary when you call and he's out of the office, you have to explain to her who you are and then hope she gets the info right and gives it to him.

Perhaps you can call first, and if you reach the gatekeeper, just say, "no message" and send the email.

Good luck. Chance encounters like that happen for a reason....

Even if he is married, it's great to reconnect with old friends and make new ones.

LOL...I woulda just looked up his home phone number and then had some friend place a call asking for "Mrs. So-and-So" and see what kind of response that got. The other option would be to hire those guys from "Cheaters" to park outside his home and spy on him. Costly, sure, but then so is a divorce that came from making bad choices.

Hey, no one ever said I was the brightest bulb on the porch!

Ahhh, the many things I learn on BT. How to up my cadence, why I need an HRM, and how to google-stalk. Ya'll are true Renaissance people. And Christine, you could start a cottage training industry, from the looks of things.
