Subject: Hey I'm faster than an Olympian.... OK, well the guy had never swam before and got in on a goodwill charity slot from the Olympics but hey whose counting. So here's the story: I was watching the US men's 4 x 100 relay finish again - this time with Britain's commentary - interesting..when I came across the Australian comedic sports rendition of the 2004 100 m-qualifying swim of that poor guy from Africa who tried out for the Olympics thanks to the Olympics good will program for smaller, developing nations. You've got to see this video of the guy who had never swam more than 50 meters swimming for his country. I think his time was like 1:52. (I've swam 100 meters faster than that!!!) Keep in mind the WR at the time was 48 seconds! This video is hilarious and I really felt for the poor guy who really struggled just to make it the first 50. But he was cheered on by the crowd to a finish. I thought geez this guy doesn't deserve to be at this elite level but was strangely happy that he finished. (Also happy that I could beat his time...." http://www.videosift.com/video/Worst-Olympic-qualifying-race-ever-100-Meter-Dog-Paddle |
