Subject: Minneman Triathlon
I'm competing in the Minneman Sprint Triathlon this weekend, and it'll be my first.

Like many 'firsts', I'm expecting to have issues with what to wear, how to breathe, where to go, just all kinds of awkwardness in general.  But like other 'firsts' - I'm anxious and excited!

All kidding aside, I've done quite a bit of reading in the forums and race reports and have attended a couple of clinics.  I know this is a pretty popular race in the area for beginners too.

Anybody else racing the Minneman this Saturday?  If you've raced Minneman before, any tips/insight?

Looking forward to seeing yall out there this weekend - you can find me pretty easily as I'll be wearing these.

I am racing at Minneman this year. I did the event last year as my second triathlon. It is very beginner friendly! Did you register for the novice division? From what I remember the bike and run were really flat. Last year the swim was really weedy, but hopefully that is not the case this year!

The main tip I can offer is that Oak Grove is a lot further away than I thought!  It took me an hour from Hopkins, about 20 minutes longer than I thought, which caused me to nearly lose my mind worrying about getting ready in time   Then when you arrive at the park, chances are you will have to park a bit away from the T-area.  Oh, the first tri jitters.  Glad that's over with.

Sweet shorts!

I'll be there.  Swim is VERY shallow and the bike and run courses are very flat and fast.  I agree with Sarah...this is a great beginner triathlon.

Here's my race report from 2007:

I'll be wearing this:

Or more likely this:

I'll probably be the only short Filipino there...

Good luck tomorrow!

Appreciate everyone's tips!  I will be leaving St Louis Park at 4:30 in the morning Undecided

I did indeed sign up for the novice division, so hopefully that'll minimize the amount of "on your left" i hear throughout the bike.  That's assuming someone can convince me to let go of the buoy I'm clutching to for dear life.

I did the MN Tri Club's 'open water clinic' at Lake George earlier this year.  Was definitely surprised at how 'shallow' and weedy the water was, but glad to know and experience that ahead of time.

Do any of you 'dolphin' in on the swim?  With such shallow water, how many times can you expect to 'dolphin' before transitiong into a full swim?  Typically I know you decide based on water depth, but with such a shallow lake, I'd hate to turn to my left and see the last buoy as I dolphin by....
